Are there minimum requirements or procedures required to enable GPU folding in Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04?

GPUs are tested using 64 bit Double Precision Floating point math (a hard requirement) and OpenCL 1.2 (OpenCL 1.1 may work, it is just not tested)

So you need the vendor supplied Graphics Driver and the vendor supplied OpenCL package, usually two separate installs.

I am not a Linux user, and you have not hinted which vendor's cards. (Only AMD and Nvidia are supported)

The later releases may also require adding the fahclient account created as part of the install to the 'video' group and making that the primary group membership. Otherwise it can not access the video drivers and the GPU to run the folding core to process a WU. Som other Linux distribution requires adding to a 'render' group.

As already mentioned, the proprietary drivers and OpenCL support from AMD or nVIdia, and you should install the dev kit as well.

From the hardware, you preferably have 500MB of RAM per CPU thread in your system, or more.
That's 2GB of RAM for a quadcore, or dual core with HT/SMT.
While there are WUs using more RAM, there also are using less.
For a CPU you'll need about a 1,66 Ghz dual core or more to meet the deadline, 2Ghz or higher preferred.
The original minimum specs on the main page, of single core 1,4Ghz no longer meets the deadline (and should be updated).
For a GPU you'll need a GT 730 or higher.

Pretty low spec, and cheap, but ideally you'll want something faster than that.
