idle timeout control?

Being a newbie, I was mucking around and was wondering if there is (or
was) a enhancement request for a "finer" granularity to, for lack of
a better name, the "idle timeout"?

According to the little I've found/poked around, apparently the
current idle timeout seems to be hardcoded to 5 minutes (true?).
Just wondering if this could be set to some other value. I looked
through the options of fahclient (i.e., 'fahclient --help') and
didn't "see" anything.

Just asking.

Thanks for your patience.

I'm fairly sure the work on idle is driven by whatever the specific OS that is being use uses to announce it is idle … For Windows I believe this is when the screensaver (set to blank) kicks in so if you set you screen saver to 1 minute then that would define the point at which FAH would fold … think it is less clear with the Linux variants as there are so many flavours of desktop GUI the come with/without screensavers … Someone more technical than I may correct me or be able to provide a clearer/more definitive sets of information.

I'm running on macOS (basically linux), so is there a way/option that I could
use to NOT stop the processes if my activity isn't totally idle (and having to
wait the requisite 5 or so minutes)?

There are two choices, Always and On Idle. I would chose Always. (I know how to select it in Windows, but have not owned a Mac newer than MacOS 9)

Yeah, I could do that. Just was wondering if the timeout (or other things)
were more tuneable/changeable.

Thanks.

I know how to change it in Windows, but I have not owned a Mac since MacOS 9.21. Sorry. It really is an OS setting (if it exists), not a F@H setting.

Not sure if this will help at all but may be a starting point https://www.dssw.co.uk/blog/2015-01-21- ... idle-time/

I don't know offhand which means is used by the client, something based on the Apple "idle", or the inactivity timer as mentioned in the article linked by Neil-B. What I have seen when I tried it out in the past, was about a 5 minute wait from the time I stopped using a keyboard or mouse. I have not seen any means of altering the period in the client.
