CPU utilization at different frequencies?

I know this may seem obvious but i just want to make sure since i've never really considered CPU utilization before.

50% utilization at 2GHz produces more output than 60% utilization at 1GHz?

I left my laptop running today at medium or high. I came back a few hours later to see the CPU temperature was at 94C. It was running at about 60% utilization at around 1GHz. I turned down F@H to low, within a few minutes the CPU temperature came back down to around 60-70C and it's been sitting at around 50% utilization at around 2.2 GHz ever since. The base speed for the CPU is 2.2GHz.

Obviously being a laptop, it has poor cooling and i can't really do anything about that without making some big changes.

So it looks like the setting has to be low, so it doesn't thermal throttle. I'm just wondering if it's doing more or less now than when it was thermally throttling?

I think if you're mostly concerned about folding performance, the PPD is a good benchmark, just take into account variations between different projects and WUs.

Interesting. I didn't know those devices existed. I already have my laptop sat on a pad to allow for better air flow.

If your CPU is thermally throttling, that is a warning to you. Don't let it do so on a continuing basis.

Yeah I have a cooling pad as well but that's practically nothing compared to the vacuum cooler. At least for my laptop.
