Ubuntu 19.10, AMD GPU - make it fold ?

Hiya!
I got Ubuntu 19.10, and I got a Radeon R9 370.

The proprietory drivers don't install for 19.10.

Is there a solution or should I retreat to 18.04 ?

Does it work using the current drivers? if it doesn't just go back a version. But I'm not the best at PCs(I use a laptop)

It just doesn't fold with the GPU. I can't add a GPU slot.
I tried

https://math.dartmouth.edu/~sarunas/amdgpu.html
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=110795

but they didn't work.

I'm not a complete noob, I've run BOINC clients with multiple GPU's before, but I can't get this to go.

Someone posted that they were able to install the AMD proprietary drivers on 19.10 by modifying the installer. You may find it with a search,I saw the post within the last 24-48 hours.

When you say you can't get it to go, are the AMD drivers failing to install or is FAHclient failing?

I had a lot of grief with AMD drivers in 18.04 LTS (imho it's best to stick to LTS then don't have to upgrade every year) and my problem hcild RX570 (kernal panics/bluescreens in an eGPU enclosure but seems fine in computer) and after a lot of digging I found ((can't link because this is my first post </3)) (search the forum for Ubuntu 18.04 / 16.04 with AMD Rx 570s by NullPtrException then go page 2 and search for init.d

Basically you need to make sure FAHclient is running as root by editing the init.d for FAHclient (/etc/init.d/FAHclient)

I think I got them sort of installed. I know that sounds odd but I can't remember everything I tried last night. I also tried installing opencl on it's own. That seemed to install OK but client still didn't recognise.
But I didn't get any blue screens or panics.
Have you got it working ?
Has anyone ?

When I try and add a GPU slot I get
On client "local" 127.0.0.1:36330: No available GPU
Is there anything I can do about this ?

So I did end up managing to get a workload onto my AMD GPU which is indeed definitely dead because moment it started to fold the machine would crash :|

Though with your situation, can you please post the first 20 lines of your /etc/init.d/FAHClient?

Code: Select all

head -n 20 /etc/init.d/FAHClient
edit:
Clarification on my crash, the card had been causing kernal panics on my mac and bluescreening the work laptop so thought maybe was eGPU issue but when I tried folding, initially was getting bad workload error but then when they fixed that I successfully picked up a workload and about 30 seconds in it would kernel panic :(
