Macs aren't the best at staying cool, to try and stop the CPU getting too hot how many threads should I set it to.
On my windows i77700K I was getting nearly 90 degrees (it's water cooled as well...) but since setting thread level to 4 it's just below 80 (which is much more reasonable).
Thanks for any and all help!

Laptops are problematic for cooling, you can do 2 things: move the slider left to decrease priority, or use the advanced function to reduce cores manually perhaps choosing just 4 to see how that goes.

i have two MBPs folding 24/7 at the Full setting - one a 8,3 from 2011 and a 13,3 from 2016. I use Macs Fan Control to change fan RPM to keep CPU temp around 150 degrees F. Max temp for laptop is 212 then computer will turn itself off. I also have laptops on a raised cookie cooling rack since the bottom acts as a heat sink.

I have had a 2012 model 13" MBP folding or nearly 4.5 years. I keep it raised so air can circulate under it and aid in cooling, and I use 2 of the 4 CPU threads to fold on.
