Set up help for Mac Pro 2019

Can anyone help out with optimal settings for a Mac Pro 2019 with the following config?
  • 3.3 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon W
    192 GB 2933 MHz DDR4
AMD Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB
I can't seem to find a detailed listing of what the various setting values mean or what is optimal. If there is such a document/link that would be appreciated!

Specifically, the Configure > Slots listed one entry after install: "ID = 0, Type = "cpu". However in the help for adding new slots, it suggests that setting the ID to `-1` would allow the client to choose the best setup, so why is the default 0 threads?. Should I adjust this to -1, leave it at 0, or specify something else given my 12 core setup?

Should i have a gpu slot as well for my video card? There wasn't one set on install. When I add a gpu set at -1 it does seem to add more cores to the cpu listing and adds a second line for my "work queue id", but doesn't list a gpu for either and when I go back to edit the slots, the gpu I added is not listed - it still just shows one row for cpu with id of 0.

Sorry for my total lack of understanding here, it's a new computer and I just want be sure everything is set optimally so I can contribute!

the Configure > Slots listed one entry after install: "ID = 0, Type = "cpu".
This looks correct for a single CPU folding slot. You don't want to set the slot ID to -1. The slot ID does not have anything to do with the number of threads being used by the CPU.

If you press the Edit button for that slot, at the top of the window that opens up you can specify the number of CPU threads you want it to use. In most cases, you should leave that at -1. Modifying this value will not change the slot ID.

GPU folding is not supported on the Mac at this time, so you should not create a GPU slot.
