This has been weirdly hard to diagnose, and I'm not sure where I should go from here.

I can now get the screensaver up and I've seen the control panel but don't see anything helpful. Other articles posted the log file, so I found that and it seems nothing is connecting externally, but I don't know why.

The 10053 error messages you can ignore, they come from parts of the client such as Web Control not closing a connection properly.

The errors in getting an assignment are common right now, the great turnout of persons donating time on their computers has increased the number of requests on the servers more than 10 times what it was a week ago. They are working on getting more servers up and running, currently there can be a wait before getting an assignment.

Okay. Too bad it doesn't say that.

Is there any reason I'm not getting GPU assignments? Are they still out? I don't have a rare/weird GPU.

For the log section you posted, both folding slots show as paused, waiting for idle. Does the system ever detect it is idle and try to request WUs?

As for WUs, there are available ones, just more connection requests than the servers can handle. Eventually your system should get some assigned, it is a bit of luck whether your system connects and there is a server that can take another connection and has work of the type requested.

When requesting work, the client will wait an increasing amount of time between requests to avoid having everyone request at once after a server outage from something like a power outage affecting many servers. As such it is not ideally configured for this situation, but is what is there. If the time between requests gets too long, several hours or so, you can pause the client or slot for a minute, and then set it to start again.
