Hi all, just resetting up FaH on my rebuilt PC and I'm getting the following

Code: Select all

00:56:17:WU01:FS01:Downloading core from http://cores.foldingathome.org/v7/win/64bit/nvidia/Core_21.fah
00:56:17:WU01:FS01:Connecting to cores.foldingathome.org:80
00:56:18:ERROR:WU01:FS01:Exception: Failed reading core package header.
00:56:18:WU00:FS00:Downloading core from http://cores.foldingathome.org/v7/win/64bit/avx/Core_a7.fah
00:56:18:WU00:FS00:Connecting to cores.foldingathome.org:80
00:56:18:ERROR:WU00:FS00:Exception: Failed reading core package header.
I've not had the issue before and the .fah file can be downloaded manually, any thoughts on this?

Are you running an anti-malware app or firewall? They can block the client from downloading. The FAHClient process needs the same permissions to transfer data as a web browser, you may need to add an exception to allow FAHClient to upload and download using HTTP(S) over ports 8080 and/or 80.

nope this is a fresh install of win 10, and fahclient is on the allowed list on defender firewall for private and public, there is no 3rd party AV on the box

The server is able to deliver the file to me if I open that URL in Firefox. That means your security software is blocking FAHClient from download the file. You must add an exception to your filewall to let FAHClient function as a browser and download html files.

Manually download the file won't help. FAHClient will install it where it needs to go in FAH"s work files.

Hi Bruce,

if you see my previous comment
fahclient is on the allowed list on defender firewall for private and public
and I can be sure that it isn't our gateway firewall because the file can be downloaded in a browser

I have also disabled windows defender firewall on all network types but am unable to get it to read the package header even in this case

There appear to be other reports lately of the same issue -- viewtopic.php?p=315709#p315709 and viewtopic.php?p=315734#p315734

Thanks anandhanju, I'm not sure if this is a known issue at all but it's affecting quite a few machines and we were hoping to deploy more
