Requesting short work units

Recently I have been sent very long work units that would take over 15 days to complete.
How can I configure my client to request only short work units, lasting no longer than 24 hours?
I have been requesting 'advanced' work units, is that what I did wrong?
I have an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 @ 3.00 GHz, which was fast ten years ago, but is now considered quite slow by modern standards.

Are you letting them run long enough to complete a percent or two? The client does not give reliable estimates on new projects to your system until then.
I have a faster dual core i7 and the client also shows me estimated completion times of 15 days, or the timeout, on new projects. Once a few percent are done the estimate is more accurate.
There are also some shorter length WU's using CPU folding in Beta, they should be released to Advanced soon.

As soon as I saw that it had a deadline of 20 days, I knew it would be a long runner, and I aborted it.
I will remove the Advanced flag and see if that results in shorter work units.

There is no specific setting for short/long WUs. All WUs are first assigned to "beta" and then to "advanced" and eventually to "fah." Whatever choice that works today may not work tomorrow... plus the WUs in each type are generally a mixture so your result is probably fairly random.

I have a core Duo P9300 at 2.26 Ghz folding successfully, 3.7kPPD.
