What am I working on?

I'm currently working on a protien (?) named "IBX in Water DGROMACS core" and I would like to know a little about this protien. Where can I find information? In the past I've had a project number and although most of them didn't have a description (is someone getting lazy?) I had a place to look. From what I can see this project doesn't have a number.

What's listed for that work unit in the unitinfo.txt file? Or in the fahlog.txt file?

Hi there. Thank you for your interest (which we all share) in understanding what we fold.
Sometimes we cannot give too much info as to protect the project itself, but once the data is gathered and analyzed the knowledge gained is released in the form of publication. Let me check with the owner of the project.

Cheers!
Paula

This is the unitinfo.txt file:

Hello Jim, the FAHLog.txt file typically has the project number. You can then find the description for it on the psummary page if the researcher has documented it.

I did find the project number in the log (copied below). Thanks for pointing me to the right information source. When I looked up the number the message said the information is new... Project information reads:

Project 3903

This Folding@Home project is new! Stay tuned for more details.

But this is the point. I would estimate that of the last 10 projects I've worked on at least 8 had no information about the project. I'm not a scientist and don't understand a lot of what I read about these projects. I would, however, like to understand the very basics on what I'm working on. Just a short paragraph to indicate the protein has to do with..... I don't think that's asking too much. Does anyone?

I've reminded the team to update this project summary. It's hard for me to think of my team as being lazy, since they work long hours involved with FAH. However, some times other areas (GPU, SMP clients, new analyses, experimental tests of our results, etc) some times get higher priority, but it's still important for us to give these descriptions as well.

Maybe "lazy" was a poor choice of words. A teams priorities may not be aligned with the army of individuals (part of the team?) who DONATE their computers and the associated costs with the effort to discover the workings of the micro world.

How about a small amount of respect to those of us considered low priority by at least telling us what we are working on.

I feel a conspiracy theory coming on.

I finished project 3903 and started project 2613. Does anyone want to guess what information FAH gives about this project?

Hi,
There is no conspiracy. Please be patient, the information will come very soon. This is a distributed effort, so everybody is doing the best they can.
Thank you for your understanding.

PS I would add that once the data is analyzed, the results are published. FAH has resulted in more papers than any other distributed computing project and we're continuing to work hard to continue this tradition. Sorry about not having all the projects updated. I'll remind group members to do a better job there. As I stated above, this is mainly about this being a particularly busy time right now, especially in a time when my team is very involved with several new FAH initiatives I've mentioned above.

Finally, I should mention that in science, it's generally very bad form to publicize what one is doing until it's gone through peer review, and it's bad for the project for us to publicize too broadly what we're doing before it gets through peer review. We understand we need to balance that donors need to know what's going on, but sometimes people err on the side of waiting for peer review to give more info. Hopefully we can balance that better in the future.

Yep, I remembered the cold fusion fiasco.
No more bursting out of the shower, running around naked and screaming "eureka!" lol

That's exactly what you'd say if there WAS a conspiracy.
