GeForce GTX 1050

I have two identical computers, with a GeForce GTX 1050 GPU. One of them is running Windows 10 (64bit) and F@H runs smoothly on its GPU. The other is running Ubuntu 17.10 (64bit) with NVIDIA Driver 384.111, but F@H does not use its GPU. I'm pasting the results of FAHClient --lspci below. Thank you in advance for any help.

0x10de:0x1c81:2:7:GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050] is listed in GPUs.txt, so that's not the problem.
Please post the first ~100 lines of /var/lib/fahclient/log.txt.

The default location for log.txt and GPUs.txt is:
/var/lib/fahclient

You don't know for sure that lje has the GPUs.txt file . I know on my rigs I have to manually download it after an install
fah.stanford.edu/file-releases/public/GPUs.txt
/var/lib/fahclient/GPUs.txt

Thank you all! Currently, after a shutdown and restart my /var/lib/fahclient/log.txt does not contain much, namely only

Which seems to be the result of my running FAHClient manually after (re-)configuring. It does say there is a GPU, but is unable to access some database. On the other hand, when I start folding through FAHControl, everything works fine except GPU is not used --- in /var/lib/fahclient/logs I have one log that seems to be the result of using FAHControl. I'm attaching its preamble below. However, if I try to add a GPU slot in FAHControl's Configure/Slots, then, after saving, either nothing happens or there is an error message (that I cannot replicate right now, so I'm not pasting it), but no GPU slot is used in the end either way. Let me also note that I do have GPUs.txt file, with the following lines in particular.

Just note that the file is GPUs.txt, not GPU.txt. You probably have it but just in case.

You're right, of course. I meant GPUs.txt. (Now corrected in previous post.)

I recommend reinstalling fahclient_7.4.4_amd64.deb or a later version. One or more of the post-installation steps was not completed correctly.
When you started FAHClient manually, it probably created an additional set of work files and you're now looking at the set that's located in the expected location.
How are you starting FAHClient now? It's supposed to start automatically when you reboot but that may or may not be happening. In essence, FAHClient runs as a service and you are expected to manage what it's doing with FAHControl.

Thanks, I'll try reinstalling. But yes, it starts automatically and runs as a service, but it does not use the GPU. As for the initial setup, indeed, the configuration window froze and became completely unresponsive at what seemed like the end of the process. But this has happened to me before on another computer, which does not have a graphics card (only what's integrated with the CPU) and is also running Linux (the most recent Mint, 64bit) --- that one though has been folding without any glitch for months now..

Nothing much has changed after reinstalling. This time I did it all from command line. As far as I recall, it never asked about using GPU. Currently, I have no GPUs.txt in /var/lib/fahclient, and the log in that directory reads as follows:

And which drivers are being used by the GPU?

As I wrote before: NVIDIA binary driver version 384.111 (proprietary, tested).

There is a known problem where the client gets started and configured before detecting the GPU and its driver. That creates the <gpu v='false'/> entry in the configuration and the client does not download and install the GPUs.txt file.
To fix this, open FAHControl and use its Configure control. On the Expert tab add an Extra Client Option, name would be gpu with the value true. Save the changed configuration and restart your system. When restarted the client should now download an updated GPUs.txt file, at worst you might need to do that manually and place it in /var/lib/fahclient.

Rather than restarting your system, you can
sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient restart
That way FAHClient won't get started before the connection to your ISP is established.

Thank you! Frankly, I have no idea why this worked, because I have tried all that before. But indeed, after setting <gpu v='true'/>, restarting, and then adding GPU slot in FAHControl's Configure/Slots, finally it gave no error message, but rather added the slot, which is now running.
