Hello
science man ,
One would think that with your forum name, that you would know how to punch the buttons on a calculator...
Ok, just kidding, so let's narrow down the variables and have some fun with numbers.
The benchmark CPU is a P4-C Northwood @ 2.8GHz and produces 110 ppd.
There are
86,400 seconds/day.
To complete a 110 pt. WU in one second, a CPU would have to be 86,400 times as powerful as
the benchmark machine.
86,400 X 2.8GHz =
241.920 THz machine with FAH crunching ability that's equivalent to a P4-C CPU.
To correlate this with the fastest CPUs out there right now, assuming 100% SMP efficiency (
LOL) then that would be the equivalent of 5,400+ Skulltrail dual-Quad rigs @ 2.8GHz (taking liberties with Quad performance).
i.e. you won't be seeing any desktop box fast enough to do a 110pt. WU in 1 second any time soon...
(OK, 12-13 yrs, according to Moore's Law)
but don't quote me.
edit: Did I
not mention streaming- processor schemes?
