Hi there,

A colleague of mine has tried to use his GTX 650 Ti Boost but is not able to get any WUs. Are there no more WUs available for this GPU?
It is still supported according to GPU.txt
According to log the problem is "Empty work server assignment"

Try removing

17:40:03: <max-packet-size v='big'/>

If that has no effect then remove

17:40:03: <client-type v='advanced'/>

But those options should be optional only, if there is no big WU then it will download a small or normal. Same with advanced...

The word confusing you is 'should' I agree, it should work that way. It doesn't, but it should.

There's nothing unique about assignments for the GTX650Ti ... there are lots and lots of other GPUs that draw work from the same pool of WUs and I see no complaints from others.

Was this a temporary problem? If so, which work server provided your next assignment?

I just wondered why the client tries to connect to a server which I can't find on this list http://fah-web.stanford.edu/pybeta/serverstat.html:
171.67.108.45
171.64.65.35
My colleague says he's using v7.4.4.

In our forum the error message "Empty work server assignment" has lead to the assumption that there are no WUs available anymore for the 650 Ti Boost.
In case the client tries to connect to servers which don't exist it could make sense to use a different error message like "Server does not exist", couldn't it?

Good news is that after new installation of client it works again.

Thanks for your help.

"Empty work server assignment" only means the Assignment Server could not match up your request. Posting the first 100 lines of the log to show the system and its configuration would help in determining why that happened.

Assignment Servers are no longer tracked on the serverstat page, just Work Servers and Collection Servers. All clients have to connect to an AS first, they match up your client's request with work available from the various WS's.

If you look at a successful assignment, every one starts with a connection to one or another of these AS's and then is handed over to a WS. It will look something like this:

Code: Select all

14:35:37:WU01:FS00:Connecting to 171.67.108.45:8080
14:35:37:WU01:FS00:Assigned to work server 155.247.166.219
14:35:37:WU01:FS00:Requesting new work unit for slot 00: RUNNING cpu:8 from 155.247.166.219
14:35:37:WU01:FS00:Connecting to 155.247.166.219:8080
14:35:38:WU01:FS00:Downloading 720.24KiB
14:35:39:WU01:FS00:Download complete
It may even go to a WS not on the current serverstat page, a few are not on it. They were added sometime after the last update to the page. PG are working on an updated severstat page, that will include current WS's when released on the website.

(You might suggest that your colleague join foldingforum the next time he has questions about the client software.)

For a GTX 650 Ti configure max-packet-size=small

@foldy: Your recommendation is more-or-less correct except for the fact that "small" (as well as the default setting) has been redefined depending on whether you're running V7.4.4 or v7.4.15+

For my GT740, I use max-packet-size=7. That doesn't change meaning if I switch FAHClient versions.
