I can't get a work assignment

I just installed FAH but seem unable to get a work assignment. I have a Windows 10 machine on a Dell XPS. I can see in the logs a server lock was obtained but seem unable to get a work assignment. The log is below.

Welcome to the folding support forum.

What you have run into is a common problem with the default installation on a system with an i7. The power slider defaults to Medium which will use one core less than the maximum available. Since you do not have a usable GPU for folding, that leaves a CPU setting of 7. Currently there are few projects that will assign to that. The updated client currently in public beta does have code to work around that, and a future full release will include that.

For now there are several options. If you move the slider to Full or Light you should get an assignment based on either a CPU:8 or CPU:4 request. Or you can use the advanced control FAHClient to set a specific number of CPU cores to use. Any multiple of 2, 3 and or 5 should work.

Yep, that worked! It only took 1-2 minutes to pick an assignment up too, at CPU:4 on light. Thanks for the help and quick reply.

I am having a similar issue. CPU was folding fine on Light, Medium, and High before work, but when I got home it says Ready, Waiting on: WS Assignment. 13 attempts, next attempt in two hours thirty minutes. Is there a way to make it attempt to collect an assignment sooner? I'm on an i7 3820k, changed the slot to 8, have been waiting to see if it will attempt a download automatically for ten minutes or so, thought about exiting and restarting, but I don't want to lose the progress my GPU has made.

Welcome to the folding support forum.

If you have an i7 and a GPU slot, using 8 CPU threads for folding will slow down both CPU folding and GPU folding. So we would recommend a setting for 6 to get work when none is available for a setting of 7.

To get a download attempt quicker, you can right click on the CPU folding slot in FAHControl and Pause just that slot, Change the CPU thread setting and then set the slot to Fold. That will usually reset the download retry timer and download a WU right away.

The folding client currently in public beta, 7.4.16, has code to automatically negotiate for a download of the highest CPU thread setting available up to the number requested. It will download for CPU:6 if no assignments are available for 7.

I would like to complement Rare Bear for including his log with Configuration information. It truly helps diagnose issues.
