Windows 10 1607 Anniversary Edition

I moved to Win 10 1607 Anniversary Edition. It is a nice OS. Yesterday I totally believe F A H crashed my Tower HARD. It took hours of coaxing and wheedling the tower to get it up and running a couple of times and then I realized F A H is NO LONGER compatible with WIndows 10.
I limped it to the desk top and it froze AFTER I uninstalled F A H. I had to pull the plug to reboot again EXCEPT it took hours to get Win 10 back [ it had never been a problem ] after even a few more hours the tower commenced as normal.

I did remove old Shadow Copies after I started running F A H Anniversary 1607 Version when the BIG FREEZE occurred.. How could F A H somehow rely on an old Shadow Copy [? ? ?], so much so it Froze the tower.?

I HAD BEEN RUNNING F A H successfully for a few months on this rig - Old WIndows 10 1591[?] version.

Lenovo X58 S20ThinkStation MoBo, Xeon X5650, 6GB Samsung RAM, Adata AS330 SSD, XFX R7 300 graphics card<------------ Homade rig, 2016 SSD less than a year old & 2016 VGA card.

Will it ever be safe to run F A H on Win 10 Anniversary 1607? This is offered to Windows 10 Users as a innocent simple UPGRADE. NONE of my other PCs have been inflicted by the tragedy as they do not run F A H.

As time will march on I think the creew needs to investigate and smooth the problem out. Probably not a big fix, I do not know, but the disabling FREEZE happens.

This is not likely to be a problem related directly to F@H.

The first possible solution that I would try might be to download and install the latest GPU drivers from AMD.

Unfortunately Microsoft appears to be determined to limit your ability to use the drivers you want to use and this version of Windows 10 does install GPU drivers which may not be compatible with F@H ... i.e. they might be missing OPENCL.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of search returns on the internet complaining about this update so Microsoft describing it as "a innocent simple UPGRADE" is naive and in a lot of cases inaccurate.

This sounds to me like a harddisk problem. When there are bad sectors on disk or similar then on access to these sectors Windows will hang or crash or does not startup in time. I recommend to chkdsk your harddisk by opening a cmd shell and call "chkdsk /F".

FAH requires OpenCL support when using a GPU. Microsoft often does not include that support -- as evidenced by the statement "19:44:26: OpenCL: Not detected"

Installing the drivers directly from NVidia (or ATI) solves this problem.

I'm not sure which driver version is included with 1607, but I'd choose to install the same version from NV. I recently had a problem installing the later version recommended by NV and I solved it by going back to the one that MS had tested on that version of Windows.

Problem solved.

For anyone who has experienced the same:
I manually downgraded to 372.70 and then let the Nvidia Experience upgrade again to the most recent driver version.

This is a Windows 10 issue, force installing non working (for fah) GPU drivers, seemingly with every monthly update.

So much so, there is a whole forum section dedicated to this issue.
