FAH no work after update 1607 (8/8/16)

This morning I installed the anniversary update 1607 and among other programs it messed up is FAH.

First it came up with an error window saying that, OpenCL.dll was missing, reinstall, so I did and set FAH up with the Web Control. No difference so I removed FAH again deleting the data and reinstalled. The FAH Control does not start on boot or log-in. The Configure tab brings up a window showing "Connections" only. Preferences is the same as before. FAHControl stays forever showing that it is connecting.

HELP Please

Something tells me this is going to be "interesting"

You need to reinstall nvidia driver. After that folding should work fine.

Maybe there are now 2 ways OpenCL can get corrupted in Windows 10.
1) Windows 10 makes a silent nvidia driver update
2) Windows 10 makes a Windows Build update

I think your case is 2)

For case 1) there could help to prevent silent Windows driver updates.

There are also these threads from Nvidia and Microsoft about OpenCl.dll problem where some fixed it by using Windows dism tool but the procedure looks not easy.

I had followed Tom's Hardware instructions on how to keep windows from updating drivers several as recommended in another thread here. The 1607 Anniversary (the latest) does not allow one to do this any more.

I next went to GeForce Experience and tried to get an update but was told that I had the latest (368.81 driver). Next I went to the Device Manager, Display Adapters, and was told that there was an update so out of curiosity I let it Download and install the 369.09 driver. FAH still does not work.

All I can think of now is to delete the driver and get a new one from NVidia even though it may not be what MS says is the latest. This will have to wait till tomorrow as am going to have to learn how do this and it is too late in the day now.

EDIT Just reread your post and I will try the DISM tool tomorrow. I have used it before but it has been a while so it will take me some time to recall using it.

I'm sorry the prevent Windows from driver updating does not work anymore.

The geforce experience may be right about 368.81 is the latest driver but you need to reinstall it to fix OpenCl.

The windows update driver 369.09 is probably missing the right OpenCl again.

Yes you need to download the driver directly from nvidia.

The DISM tool I did not try myself but it should work if you can handle it.

I have FAH working again.
I forgot where I obtained the link to a Tom's Hardware for the fix and cannot find it today.

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2767 ... ndows.html

Last night one of the last things I did was go to "Programs and Features" and there were two copy's of the driver shown.
Today I opened up the Tom's hardware page and followed it. If one needs to do this, review how to go to safe mode and create a restore point if need be.

The short of it is if you do not want to go to the link; Get driver directly from your GPU page then there is a program link to a nice utility to remove everything off your computer related to your GPU and then reinstall the latest driver.

EDIT I had to remove and reinstall FAH to getting working OK after doing the above.

Many thanks to all.
I could not have done it without your help.

I was happy too soon. After logging off and back on to get my programs loaded again FAH is failing just as it was. Any ideas of how logging off and back into my user profile could cause the failure?

I think MS is determined to kill FAH. (maybe intentionally or maybe not).

I'm going to complain directly to MS. Anybody want to join me?

MS is determined to take the decision making out of the hands of the person that owns the computer, this will affect many things including F@H. perhaps we should se if VJ or one of the project heads would offer their support - it might make more headway? MS is too pigheaded to listen to 100,000 donors to a DC program that it knows little about.

There have been some reported issues with the 1607 update, I haven't had a chance to read any of the articles but it seem there have been some issues with the upgrade.

Something is probably wrong with FAH folders locations at install ... what options did you use (install for anyone/just for me, start automatically/manually, ...) ?

Fast way to check setup is to look at how your desktop shortcut for FAH is set up ... can you post "Target" and "Start in" values ?

I Used the standard install, I forget what it is called but I let it set itself up as it wanted to do not the custom install.

FYI, another Team helix member had his update come out so bad (black screen) he had to have it reinstall back and is now loading all his programs.

I do not use desktop shortcuts except as a short team memory of something to be looked at later. I use Classic Shell for it's Win7 start menu and have a shortcut in thee.

Yep... this afternoon I come by the computer room and there was a rectangular pop-up telling of an update already.

I am going to keep FAH running by Running the Guru3D Display Driver uninstaller in the link below; then loading the NVidia driver that I have directly from their website; removing and reinstalling FAH; and then manually starting all the programs that are normally in my task-tray . I use the express install on both of these. I now have the NVidia driver and the clean uninstall in a folder for easy access.
This will keep FAH running until the next time I need to update anything or log out and into my user profile.
Meanwhile Microsoft has problems.

I need to get my laptop running the update that came after the 1607, yesterday, borked it.

I reinstalled FAH this morning and let it put a shortcut on my desktop.
It went to the Administrator desktop even though I installed FAH in the standard user profile.

It says " Location:HideConsole (C:\ ~~~etc)

Startin = C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

Target =C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

I used the Express options for the install.

The Express install should put an icon on whatever desktop was logged on. By default, FAHClient will start in the background when that user logs on.

I always run the install script from my usual desktop. WIndows then asks me for permission to complete the installation. Is that what you did?
