Suffering from constant crashes on core 21 WUs!

I have a PC with Xeon E3 and GTX 780, with windows 7 64bit system.
E3 works well and offers constant ppd. However, my GTX 780 is suffering from crashes and loss of progression very frequently! Several times a day! This doesn't occur on core 18 WUs but does occur on core 21 WUs!

When this occurs, my PC became very laggy, and the log file stopped updating while the progression in the "work queue" continues. It won't resume, unless I pause the fold and do it again.
E.g. I woke up today and found my WU @ 99.99% in the "status" page, and the log file stopped with a progression of 77%.

I discussed with guys in the Chinese forums and they said that the GTX 780 has been overclocked to an instable state. However, I didn't overclock my GPU by myself. It's officially overclocked as the Inno3d Ichill GTX 780 @ 1006 Mhz.

Any solutions? It drives me to insanity! :x

you will need to remove the overclock. core_21 is very sensitive to it.

An overclock from nVidia's reference values, even if done by a card manufacturer who uses their chips, is still an overclock. In particular, folding processing on Core_21 seems to be less stable on higher memory speeds than reference values.

There also appears to be driver versions that Core_21 is more stable with. What version are you currently using?

driver versions are the newest. I don't know which one.

is there a way to prevent receiving core 21 wus? or other solutions? I don't want to downclock my GPU as it affects my game!

[quote="Utopia-Phoenix"]driver versions are the newest. I don't know which one.

Which projects are being assigned to you?

If you're configured with the default setting for client-type, then no, you can't prevent those assignments. If you have set that value, removing the setting will reduce those assignments to a rare case.

If they still crash, you must downclock VRAM.

Project 9206 I think.
I did not set anything in the configs.

It seems that I'll pause folding until there is some solutions!

Stanford doesn't support overclocking. I don't expect FAH to come up with a solution for systems which are unstable.

Does your fah speed increase when Core_21 is running? (This won't be the first time that FAH has created a benchmark program which stresses the hardware more than the standard overclocking benchmarks.)

The problem is, most 780s and 780tis have an officially overclocked vbios!

FAH surely does need to consider these donors!

There's something odd somewhere- Utopia-Phoenix says be hasn't changed the client-type (ie it's defaulted to full) and thinks he's got a P9206.

My clients are set to advanced and getting assorted projects in the P9205-9213 range which psummary says are issued by 171.64.65.104. According to serverstats that server is beta only.

I also get quite a few P9625-43 from 171.67.108.155, but serverstats is silent about client-type for that one.

According to the Announcements section here, all the above projects are on full release so are unlikely to be "rare cases" with default client type.

It's possible I'm mis-reading something, and serverstats is sometimes less than 100% reliable, could you check please?

I've already had this argument- I think they should too, but they don't. Anything above NVidia base clock is unsupported.

THBS, my 780 Ti (running under Linux) is underclocked from factory settings, though still well overclocked from NVidia base, and is fine with Core_21's. It does run hotter than with Core_17/18.

One possible problem could be temperature.

Please check the temperature when you have a core_21 WU. They do run hotter than other cores. My 780 (954/6008) is currently running a core_21 and it's temperature is ~76C with the fan manually set to 85% and your GPU is clocked faster than mine so it's likely to be running even hotter. Are you using software like MSIAfterburner or PrecisionX to increase the fan speed? Your 780 is likely getting too hot if you're not.

Try Nvidia driver 347.88, and use a clean install from their custom installation tab. It has worked for 2 weeks of my factory overclocked GTX card for 2 weeks.

Try run Furmark to check if your gpu is stable. If not adapt clock or cooling or power supply.
I also had crashes on an older GPU and needed to refresh the cooling paste which can dry out after some years. No problems here till then.

This usually indicates a video driver crash.

You know what? I ever ran furmark on my PC and went sleep. It runs stable.
