Hi all, so I'm new to folding, I have seen it a lot on forums to do with overclocking and etc, but never really knew anything about it. Thought it was like Bitcoin which I don't really like. Now that I know what it is, and it's for charity I jumped straight in :).

Anyway I've got it running right now, and it's giving me what I seem to think is good stats, it's rating me at 6972/(approx 1.7 million) (I lost the link that had such stats and can't seem to find it atm but the number was higher than 1.7 million and I'm at just under 7000 which I think is really cool!). Anyway I thought that was good and theres a lot of talk about joining a team so I thought maybe I could help a bigger cause with a team! Also this number shows up in the program: Points per day 224790 (changes a bit, sometimes I see 222,000 - 230,000)

So any advice would be good and if there is anyway my computer could contribute to the cure of such diseases I would be more than obliged when I can. Currently it says the project I'm on will be finished in 1hr 39 mins, and says that I have 19 days to do it lol!

My specs are as follows:

Intel 3960x @ 4.5Ghz
G.Skill 2400Mhz RipjawsZ 9-11-11-31-2T
2x Gigabyte R7970TO (AMD Radeon) 1100/1500Mhz (GPU/Mem)
ASUS RIVE Motherboard
1500W Tt PSU
Other things that won't probably matter, but it is water cooled.

Any information and advice would be nice! Thanks in advance :)

Hi Ssmb_92, welcome to the Forum!

Sounds to me like you've got your system set up pretty well. The standard install of FAH does a pretty good job of optimizing around your system right out of the box. Watch your temps on the GPUs and the motherboard to make sure they stay within a range that's within your comfort level, and check your log file (under the tab "Log" on the FAH Control window) to make sure you don't encounter any processing errors due to overclocking and/or elevated temps.

Also, make sure you sign up for a Passkey and you'll get bonus points going forward after you successfully return a dozen or so work units, which just shows FAH that you're a reliable donor. If you can, leave your system running 24 x 7 for maximum point gains, and obviously, scientific contribution. Always remember to click "Finish" whenever you want to change a configuration on your system (typically a hardware change) so the work units your system is processing can finish and be uploaded, but not download another, so you can stop FAH, make the config change, and restart folding. It's important to really try to process to completion every work unit you download, since future work units are dependent on past processed work units. "Stranded" work units eventually get reassigned, but it definitively slows scientific progress by not finishing what you start.

In the header of the Folding Forum, you'll see an entry under F@h Stats: Extreme OC, which can give you a lot more information than the standard stats the official FAH site provides. You can also scan for team names that might appeal to a certain interest group you find most compelling.

Again, welcome and Fold On!

Stanford does not support/recommend overclocking so this is not a good site to help you with that, although several folks may wander through with comments and advice. If that's your emphasis, you'll find better/more information on other sites.

Be aware: FAH can go unstable before some of the common overclocking benchmarks and well before your system BSODs so leave plenty of margin.

Thanks for the welcome! I got that passkey done as soon as it mentioned it so all good there. I'll keep in mind to finish them units, glad you mentioned that because I am making a few changes in the near future and I probably wouldn't have known to do that. I'll be sure to check out that OC link too. Speaking of which, in the middle of the night my OC gave up! Needed to add some VTT voltage, can't say I've run both these cards at 100% along with the CPU so that was interesting. Guess that's a lot of calculation to be done! Might have to put the grafix cards under water too :)
