Can`t get WS Assignment

Hello community,

I have a renderstation that I sometimes use for.... rendering... and I want to get it to work for Folding@home, but I can`t get it to receive a WS Assignemnt for the CPU, and that`s the juice of the PC... 32 cores of xeon processors I think would do very good.

Are the CPU`s not compatible?

I want to say that I have 2 ore PC`s that have i7 and Nvidia cards and I completed several jobs already, but can`t get the Xeons to work.

Pande Group has been lacking to provide work for higher end Windows systems for a long time. Try running with a setting of 12 cores and see if the client gets work.

If so, run 3 CPU slots, 12, 12, and 8, at least until better work becomes available.

Note that we generally don't recommend splitting up your CPUs into more than one slot, but given today's mix of Projects, 7im's suggestion is a good one.

It should be noted that each Project has a range of acceptable core-counts (both a maximum and a minimum) that is semi-related to the number of atoms in the protein. When proteins are selected for research, the scientists are looking at research criteria, not necessarily atom counts. Since projects start and end, it's unfortunate that sometimes the servers will not be able to assign proteins that happen to be consistent with 32-CPUs.

That's a relatively rare situation -- often of short duration -- and essentially unpredictable. Do keep checking back, because you may see a new project at any time which will allow you to finish two of the CPU slots and increase the size of the other one.

Heh, wow, that worked, I assigned 12 cores and now it works.

But how do I make another client? It says that "Cleint with address localhost:36330 is already a client list. What ports should I use? And does the client know to use the other 12 then the the other 8 cores? Are they automatically assigned like that?

Sorry for these newbie questions, yesterday I started working with fold@home :)

Do not make another client.

Using FAHControl (aka Advanced Control) select Configure + Slots + Add and verify that the proper type of slot (CPU) is selected. Change the -1 CPUs setting to whatever you want it to be and OK,SAVE... as required. A new WU should download immediately.
