Does a 1150 CPU fit in a 1155 socket?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my processor. I currently have an i7-2600k, and I'm looking at some of the upper-end Haswell series to swap to. Unfortunately, those require a 1150 socket, and my motherboard has a 1155 socket. Now, the 1155 refers to the number of pins on the socket, so obviously a 1155 CPU couldn't fit on a 1150 socket because of the five extra pins, but I'm asking the other way around. Does a 1150 CPU work on a 1155 motherboard, or is it necessary to strip the entire computer out to replace the board to get the newer socket? If that is the case, what board would you recommend?

I have this board and this CPU. I'm looking at this CPU and a 770 GPU.

Thanks.

No. Despite their similar number of pins, they are completely different. Same with 1156, etc.

Fair enough, I thought there might be a small chance of compatibility. I guess not. Thanks.

CPU coolers are compatible, though.
