New guy, how do I configure my GPU?

I folded years ago on my PS3, sold that, got a PC, and ran across FAH a week ago and am back to it!

One of my machines has a GPU that I can't figure out how to get configured. I've read that I need to have one free CPU core for it to work, is that right? I also read about a configuration guide in one post but couldn't find it.

I'm hoping to get some help with how to configure the slots so I can allow my GPU to work properly.

CPU is an i5-3450 and GPU is a Radeon 7570.

I've copied a portion of the logs in case that helps any.

Hello thewarriorhunter, welcome to the folding support forum.

No extra configurations needed to make a GPU work. Only a good working driver.

Please download and install the latest version from AMD. Then post the *** System *** of the log.

If you use the Google search box on the FAH web site, just type in "install guide" or anything else you are looking for.

Welcome to the Folding forum.

The Software link at the top of forum pages has links to pages on installation, FAQ's and configuration. As for configuration, the current client uses defaults that will reserve a CPU core for the GPU slot. In general the defaults selected by the client will be close to the best for the configuration seen at installation.

You did not mention which drivers you are using. The GPU WU's that failed for you all worked for other folders, so you may need to install different drivers. The ones installed by Windows Update or OEM drivers supplied by the PC's maker may not include all elements needed for folding processing.

Finally, it is useful when posting your log to include the beginning section that shows the client version information, system configuration and followed by the client configuration. You can get to that by either clicking the Refresh button in FAHControl or copying and pasting it from the log.txt file in the F@H data directory on your PC.

Thanks for all of the help everyone! Got my drivers updated (what a mess that was) and my GPU is working now. I must say though that even on medium the GPU working now is taking its toll on my daily tasks. I may have to leave that off unless I'm not at my workstation. So that leads to me to one more quick question that I'll research more in depth when I get home: Can I set my GPU to low and leave my CPU on medium/high or do they both have to run at the same level? I just changed the setting so I'll see for myself, but I like to ask anyways.

Good start.

Set the Power Slider to Full, but then right click on the GPU slot and select On Idle. This will fold the CPU full time, and the GPU will fold only while you are not using the computer. I have used this on computers where the GPU folding caused some lag issues.

Thanks, didn't think to right click. I'll run like this and see how it goes. The GPU was causing too much stuttering so I needed to turn it off. But this machine is on 24/7 so there will be quite a bit of downtime when it can fold.
