Can I request smaller work units?

Can I configure the client to download smaller work units in anticipation of my machine not being run 24/7?
I'm happy to donate capacity when my machine would otherwise be on but not running at full load. When I left the client at its default settings my first work unit barely finished before the timeout.

Try running the
Chrome NaCl client. It has, by far, the smallest WU's.

Welcome to foldingforum.org, bhbhbh.
There are two answers to that question, depending on whether you're talking about WUs processed by you CPUs or by a GPU.
For WUs which are processed by you GPU, there's not a lot you can do other than to suspend GPU processing. Low end GPUs ofteh have difficulty completing WUs within the deadline and there are no good tools for selecting WUs. Also, depending on the Power setting of the slider bar, the GPU often only runs when the PC is powered on but the mouse and keyboard are idle.
For WUs that a assigned to CPUs, is your total processing time per week is too small, I recommend you replace the V7 client with the NaCl client. That means installing the Google Chrome browser whether or not you plan to use it to browse the Internet. The WUs assigned to it are short enough that you may be able to complete several rather quickly before your machine is shut down.

The NaCl client works great. Thanks. Each WU completes in a few minutes
