Where to get FahCore v17 0.0.55 NVidia Linux?

Hello folders,
Sorry mod if I post in a wrong section, please move it if you want to.

I use my GTX 680 to fold in Gentoo Linux with nVidia drivers 334.21. I get 39k PPD with project 9408, which is 3 times slower than it should be.
I heard that the problem causes by the new nVidia drivers, which I didn't know beforehand.
I tried to solve the problem by trying to downgrade the nVidia drivers, but any version lower than 332 results in a block in Gentoo. I have tried version 332, but my PPD still doesn't increase.
I heard that the new FahCore v17 0.0.55 will solve my problem, and I tried to get it but without success.
I have tried client-type advanced and beta slot, deleted the cores directory, and the client shows it gets the new core from

Code: Select all

web.stanford.edu/~pande/Linux/AMD64/NVIDIA/Fermi/beta/Core_17.fah/
But my PPD won't change and when I check, the new Fahcore is still in version 0.0.46.
I tried to manually download from

Code: Select all

 www.stanford.edu/~pande/Linux/AMD64/NVIDIA/Fermi/beta/
and extracted it, but it still the 0.0.46 version.
Do you guys know how to get the new FahCore 0.0.55 for Linux? Does it require the beta status member?

Thanks in advance if someone could enlighten me.

Regards,

Aizen

Welcome to the folding@home support forum Aizen.

Unfortunately there is no linux v55 of core 17 at this time. It is on the developer's to-do list but that list is fairly large now and he has many other projects on the go. If you go to irc://freenode/fah using an irc client and explain your situation you may or may not be able to get more information as to when the linux core will be upgraded. PG does not usually specify the timing of any changes to their software.

Hi bollix47,

Thanks for your explaination.
So I guess it is no other way for me then. I think about of stopping folding because your card works 3 times slower while using the same power.
Anyway would it be better to publish folding software as open source? There were a lot of intelligent people out there who can offer help, IMHO.

There is an open source FAQ on the fah web page detailing fah's open source efforts.

And while a v55 Linux core would help, it is only a kluged patch for larger issue with the NV drivers. You might get more accomplished by posting on the NV forum, where the real problem is.

And what version of Gentoo are you running? Never heard where you could not install whatever driver version you wanted. And you want version 327.xx or less.

Gentoo is a rolling distro, what do you mean with version? If Gentoo drops support of a specific version of a software, it will be very difficult to get without breaking any things.
Here are the nvidia-drivers which still supports in Gentoo:

Code: Select all

http://packages.gentoo.org/package/x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
Of course when I tried to downgrade nvidia-drivers to 304 emerge won't allow me because a lot of packages requires higher nvidia-drivers.

Anyway thanks for your information. I will try another way.
