No Notification area/systray icon after installing 7.4.4

Hi,
I'm new to these forums. After searching for a bit, I have failed to find the answer for my problem... I'm trying to install and run F@H on an older machine. It's running Windows 8.1 Pro, it has an Intel Q9400 OC @ 3.2 Ghz, EVGA GTX460, 8 Gb Corsair DDR3 1333 mhz, Asus Maximus X38 Mobo.

What is going on is that even though I have installing and re-installing the latest version of Folding@home, no folding@home Notification Area/systray icon will appear. I suppose I don't need it to fold, but its really convenient if it was there.

I've tried clearing the notification area cache, ending and restarting windows explorer, but nothing comes up. Here's my log, sorry if this was answered before, but I don't know what's going with this...

Starting with Win 8/8.1, the systray icons default to notification of messages only so the icon does not show up unless it is giving a message. For the icon to always show, you need to hit the little up-arrow and select customize. Then when you find the Folding icon choose show icon and notifications.

Thank you for your reply. It inspired me to dig further into clearing the notification cache. After searching Google a bit more, I decided to take a chance and download a batch file from a Windows 7 tutorial website that claimed to clear the notification cache in Windows 7 & 8. It worked and now the icon appears...But, I have mixed feelings in that it worked, but I shouldn't have downloaded a file like that from an unknown website.

Please note that regarding notification tray, you can customize it with the help of this guide (http://www.7tutorials.com/how-customize ... ation-area). I wouldn't really trust a batch file unless it's from a reputed site.

Ha, that was the site I downloaded the batch file from...wasn't quite sure how reputable it was at the time.
