Evga GeForce GTX 780 superclock

im sorry but i have no idea how or where to get the code but I have a evga (nvidia) geforce gtx 780 superclocked gpu and the new fah client does NOT allow me to fold on it, I get the "On client "local" 127.0.0.1:36330: No more GPUs " error. is it as simple as adding this card to your list???

Its driving me absolutely insane as this is a new rig, just got her (finally) together tonight. this new fah web thing i hate it, i really do. anyway, bought this new very expensive gpu basically for folding. hate to think i wasted a *lot* of money . even the cpu folding is imo slow for a FX959 8 core processor

If you need that code(?) im not sure how to get it, im sorry. im dense, and quite tired at this time lol

ok figured out how to run the cmd and actually see it: i think this is it - 0x10de:0x10004

was that the code you require?

My first suggestion is to delete the current gpus.txt file (Start->All programs->Data Directory->Gpus.txt) and restart the client for it should then auto-download the most recent GPUs.txt file and if your card is contained then you are likely good to go.

If that didn't solve your problem then we need the device codes (VendorID:DeviceID) for your specific video card. There are three ways to get it. The first is running GPU-Z which is readily available for free download off the internet. The second way is to run fahclient --lspci (with two dashes) from a command window (Dos box). A 3rd way is to look at your video card device properties from within the device manager.

It is important to note that you can not edit the GPU's.txt file to make your video card work. The master server list needs to be updated. So you will need to post your codes here so we can update the master list. Once the list is updated then you will need to delete your local copy of the GPU's.txt file so the updated list gets downloaded.

If this doesn't solve your problem, then we will need a copy of your folding log (Including the system and config portions) to diagnoise the problem.

To address your other complaint, there is no need to use the web-client if that bothers you. There is an advanced control that is easily accessed from the folding icon in the systray. The Advanced Control gives all the capabilities of the web client plus much more.

The GPUs file should update automatically. This kind of error is usually a driver issue, and so the client can't see the hardware. If not there, it can't add the GPU slot.

You must uses the oem driver from NV, not the one that shipped with the card.

ok im a moron, when ever i saw gpu-z, for some reason in my mind i saw cpu-z so no i didnt get the correct info, will do that tonight once im home from work.

the other methods were not working, to get the info you requested.

Now, this might be a stupid question, but your statement on the driver issue - use the oem driver from NV?? and NOT the one that shipped with the card??? well, unfortunately i did install the driver that came with the disk, but i had also updated the driver from the nvidia site so should I be ok then or not as far as the driver issue is concerned? or should i uninstall the driver all together, go back to NV and re-download the latest driver (332.XX i think it was)?

I will run the Gpu-z program tonight.

It's really unfortunate that GPU and CPU look so similar in this text-font. I've mistaken them for each other on occasion.

Please note that there are reports that the latest Nvidia Drivers will only benefit GTX 780 Ti GPUs while other Fermi/Kepler GPUs will have a significant loss of points. Thus, if your primary purpose is to fold on the GPU, the last known WHQL Driver to provide optimum results is 327.23.

If you want, you can post the PPD values from your GPU while running 332.21 and someone with a comparable GPU will tell you if the PPD is within the normal range or not.

The 331 and 332 drivers are best for all GK110 (780, 780 Ti, Titan), not just the 780 Ti. 332.21 on my 780s is actually a couple of seconds faster than 331.xx, which were all better than 326.xx and 327.xx.

I am struggling to understand and best configure my GPU's. I would prefer Linux to Win7, but had a terrible time getting my Ubuntu machine running. I"m not sure how I managed it actually. Anyways, here are a few early results for a sanity check. Something crazy different PPD values between Core_15 and Core_17 with the quick return bonus.

FahCore_15 doesn't run under Linux so for a comparison between Windows and Linux, you can ignore that result. Also, FahCore_15 doesn't use QRB, only FahCore_17 does.

In Windows, is your GPU overclocked? If so, that might explain the higher PPD. In Ubuntu, you can't overclock the GPU by using a software, instead you will have to flash the BIOS of the GPU. Also, driver version may play an important role so make sure that you were using the latest WHQL ones on both OS (Linux 319.76, Windows 7 332.21). When I tested my GPU with factory settings, Linux was slightly faster than Windows, YMMV.

How ? 155kPPD ? Factory overclocked ? I get on two stock 780 between 137k and 144k PPD each on 8900. What are your TPF values ?

Do you run 24/7 ? Because with the driver version you mentioned I had to reboot every 36 hours.

BTW, did you get the values from Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl) or from HFM.NET? FAHControl may give an inaccurate PPD under certain conditions. HFM.NET is mostly accurate.

Yes, and no.

0x1004 was added to the Whitelist already. Fri May 24, 2013 1:28 pm

Open the GPUs.txt file on your system. If you see the same 1004 entry inside that file, then we know for sure this is a drivers issue.

The 780 is not overclocked. The ppd is calculated by FAHControl. The currently running 8900 is showing similar PPD. With a time per frame of 3:04, based on 10% progress below, http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php shows a ppd of 156,843 (even better than FAHControl). This is all new to me, I just fired up the 780 earlier today.
