Easiest way to check it's working?

I got a great deal on a quad core AMD FX-4150 this holiday season so I've installed the Linux client and am running it anonymously. I understand it may take weeks to finish one work unit, but I have not seen any change in the progress bar and there is no ETA. How long can I expect it to register 0.01% progress, and should I register rather than work anonymously - does that have any impact on how likely the work is registered or lost?

BTW System temp and processor activity level does show the system is working locally, I just want to make sure the work is being uploaded.

When first started up, the F@H client does not have any history to use to display estimates in the progress bar. Once a percent or two has been completed you should see it updated. The client does cache information on the different projects, so future WU's will usually display progress sooner if you have already processed a WU from that project previously.

Registering a username is entirely optional and does not affect whether the work is accepted.

Welcome to foldingforum.org, kramyugtaht.

Joe's point is that with no history in the cache, FAH will not show 0.01% ... but it should show 1.00% whenever it gets there.

Various projects will take various times to complete to the Time Per Frame will also vary. Look up the project number on the Project Summary page (link at the top of this page) and note the Preferred Deadline. Everybody should be able to meet that number no matter how fast or slow their CPU is provided their computer processes 24x7. Most computers will beat it by large factors provided they don't spend too much time sleeping or powered off.

For more accurate estimates, we'd need to know what project you're running and take your CPU into account along with the number of hours per day it's working. (That information would be available if you posted your log.)
