GTX 780 will not fold

I just upgraded one of my folding computers from a GTX 470 to a GTX 780. Now I am only CPU folding and the GPU does not seem to be recognized. I am running client 7.3.6. Is there something I need to do to flush out the old GPU process that was running on the GTX 470 card prior to the upgrade?

Stop the client. Go to Start / All Programs / FAHClient / Data Folder. Delete the GPUs.txt file. Restart the client so it downloads a new copy. It may help recognize the card.

If not, reinstall V7.3.6 over the top of the current install. The installer should autodetect the new GPU and install a new slot.

Upgrade the GPU whitelist. The GTX 780 is a new card.
Had the same initial experience with my 2 GTX 780ies

what AndyE said. just delete GPU.txt and the client will download a new one.

Thx for the help!

For the record:
1) Quit the process, delete the GPUs.txt file, restart = no change (GPUs.txt not recreated)
2) Quit the process, GPUs.txt file deleted, rerun the install file, restart = no change (GPUs.txt still missing)
3) Quit the process, use control panel program remove, run the install file, restart = now folding! (GPUs.txt file updated)

The upgrade more than doubled the Points per Day while using about 20W more power.

Sounds like a bug to me. GPUs.txt should download automatically when missing. If I wasn't on my phone, I'd open a new ticket on this. Any volunteers?

You quit FAHClient.exe, right? What do you mean by "restart"? Restart the whole computer, or just started FAHClient back up again?
Just got word that a restart of FAHClient should trigger a download of a new copy of the list. It's a bug if that's not working, hence why I'm asking.

No, he did not quit FAHClient.

Restarting the slots and FAHControl didn't work for him. The full uninstall reinstall did work, as I read it. Round-about way to restart fahclient. Delete it and reinstall it... :(

I assumed a reinstall would do the same and did not work.

We will have to manually end fahclient (task mangler) after pausing the slots, delete the file, then launch fahclient from the start menu again, which should work.

There is a ticket open to add fahclient start/stop functionality back in to fahcontrol in the future.

I did a right click on the little folding icon in the tray and selected "Quit".
The "restart" was just clicking the folding startup icon on my desktop. I did not do a computer restart.

I just did a test and the right click - Quit sequence does indeed stop the cores and the FAHclient.exe as reported in the Task Manager. The startup icon on my desktop behaves just like I would expect. Click it and the FAHclient and cores are launched and folding starts. I am not sure if restarting the computer would have done anything more since the FAHclient process terminated and was later recreated. It might be worth a try to see if it would have helped.

I can understand that some of the user data is not cleared on a software update using the installer but I would have expected that a replacement for the missing GPUs.txt would be copied into the directory.

The delete/reinstall process that I ultimately had to do abandoned the partially completed CPU work unit and I was assigned a fresh CPU work unit.

I hope this helps others. My system is working fine and the new card is a great improvement for my work output per energy used.

Sounds like the proper procedure then. A full computer restart isn't likely to do anything different than the quit-relaunch method that you did.

You would think...

That original WU will expire eventually (probably in a few weeks) and someone else will end up working on it. That translates into a slight delay for the project, but at least you got your GPU to fold so in the long run it's a net benefit.

While the new GTX 780 fold well under Vista I get it not running with Ubuntu.
Tried 319.23, 319.32 and 325.08 beta. In all cases I "bad work unit" , bad platform ID.

System read correct GK110. For those with 780 under Ubuntu/Linux: what driver version you use ?

On Ubuntu 13.04 I'm using nvidia-319 from xorg-edgers and my GTX 780 appears to be working well.

Try updating the nvidia OpenCL libs
