Question regarding Folding@Home 3D vizualisation

Hello there

My name is Nick and I'm back folding after a few years 'leave of absence' - whether anyone will remember me or not, I'm not sure. :)

I have just installed the latest version for Windows (running Win7 Ultimate) v 7.3.6 and after a few small problemettes where nothing seemed to be happening once my work project had been selected by the softward (8082), that seems to now be working fine and whilst it's not running like Speedy Gonzales, considering it's a 2.2 day project and it's only been running for approximately an hour at most now, 2.34% seems reasonable.

My question, however, is with regards to the 3D visualisation screen - which is currently displaying the atlas/map of the world and so on, the "current work unit" area in the top left is all blank (Project: FahCore: Progress; and Time Left:) as is the top right area - Donor name and team (I couldn't remember which team I was actively folding for previously so I've joined a UK team #55186), and bottom right area where the status is - Snapshots: blank, Connection still showing "connected", Protein showing "Loading" and Slot: is also blank. So why are the details for those not displaying, any particular reason? I am trying to view the protein by using 1, 2, 3 etc but nothing happens so I'm assuming, rightly or wrongly, that the 2 things are related?

If someone could kindly advise if something at my end needs to be configured or sorted out or whether those blank fields will fill up after a certain amount of this project has been completed or something else, I'd be grateful.

Thank you kindly, Nick (Manchester, UK)

Welcome back, Nick.

The FAHViewer code is written to use some advanced visualization features which may not be supported by that hardware/driver (though I'm not sure). Go to Preferences and in the field that says "FAHViewer" add the argument string "--basic" separated by a space. Does it work now?

There are other optional flags that can be added in that field. I found the documentation here but it took me a bit of searching.

Thank you Bruce. Using --basic fills those blanks I mentioned in my first post but pressing 1 through 7 still do nothing so I'm guessing I need to check I have OpenGL installed but it's not important. Everything else seems to be working at the moment.

Cheers Nick

I am having a similar issue (i think...)

if i open the 3D visualisation for what my CPU is working on it loads the model of the protein but if i do the same with the one my GPU is working on it sticks on loading and will not display the model

i am using an amd 7970 and an i5 2500k (with 8gb of ram @ 1600 MHz cl9)

Welcome to the F@H Forum heero yuy79,

Please note that you will have to provide us with additional details, like the initial section of the log file which contains the system configuration and F@H Settings (viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16206&p=225958#p225958). Also, are you using the latest AMD WHQL Drivers or not? Finally, a log snippet of the GPU Slot so we can identify what WU your GPU was working on.
