Cannot Control CPU usage.

Hey people, I'm having trouble with the linux version of Folding@Home.
I can control it via terminal, however I cannot specify on FAHControl how intensive the program will run. Unfortunately This has led to my processor being worked flat out, which I simply cannot do.
Is there an issue with the control program on the linux version? I can't even specify a slot for the cpu, it will not let me.

Thanks, anox

Welcome to the F@H Forum Anox,

Can you please tell us which F@H Client you are using and what Linux version you are running?

Welcome to foldingforum.org, Anox.

I'm curious why you say you simply cannot donate that much, but in any case, we'll help you meet your goals.

When FAH was originally designed, the stated policy that it was to use all UNUSED resources. In other words, as long as everything you used your computer for had a higher priority than FAH, the OS would insure that CPU resources went first to anything EXCEPT FAH and FAH would use all of the idle time. This resulted in CPUs which did run flat-out but added essentially zero lag to non-FAH processes. For CPUs, that philosophy has not changed. (For GPUs, some modification to that policy has been needed).

Although it's not essential to the normal functioning of your PC, you can, however, reduce the CPU utilziation by adjusting the Power Slider in V7.3.6. Moreover, the default setting is to leave one or more CPU Cores idle, depending on how many cores your CPU has. In addition to the information requested by PantherX, please describe your hardware.
