What is this error?

I have this error where it shows the protein information.
03:48:53:ERROR:Exception: Failed to rename 'log.txt' to 'logs/log-20130311-03485
3.txt': The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another p
rocess.
C:\Users\Ken\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient>
I also have this when I open the FAH Client.
The last thing, I used to get 15000-18000 points a day.
Now, I'm barely making 6000 per day.
My version is 7.1.52
I'm not very computer savy, just so you know.
Thanks for any help.

When the folding client is restarted it will sometimes rename the log; move it to the log folder; and start a new log. If the old log is being accessed by another application then that process will fail and give that error. Did you perhaps have an editor open that was displaying the log when the client was restarted?
There are several causes of low PPD. You did not supply anywhere close to enough information to be able to diagnose the problem. My first guess would be the video card has dropped to a very low clock rate because p7625 project tends to run hotter than the normal GPU folding project and thus can over-stress a GPU causing a VRM reset that historically hasn't failed. There are other possibilities though.

Hi, I don't know how to move it to the log folder. I quit folding, opened the client and restarted fah control and the client seems okay.
What info do you need to diagnose a problem?
I just know my cpu is at 100% and my dedicated video card is being used.
Thanks

Perhaps 2 instances of the client are running?

Okay, I copied the log from today, while the program is running. Now what?
EDIT: I'm subscribed to this thread, but am not getting email notifications when new posts are added.

@kwk1,
could you Finish your currently running WUs, uninstall v7.1.52 (also remove FAH data directory) and do a clean install of client v7.3.6? Things have changed a bit and v7.3.6 should be easier on people who are "not very computer savvy", as you phrased it.

Hi Napoleon,
So, go to programs and uninstall FAH, I can do that.
I don't know what or where FAH data recovery is though.
Also, will I still be able to save my status and username if I reinstall the newer program?
Or would I be starting from scratch again?
What did anyone find from the data I supplied, just curious?
Thanks

From the time covered in the log it looked like everything was processing okay. It was not long enough to get a sense on how the SMP WU was progressing.
If you delete the data files, you just need to reenter your username, team and passkey. Your status in the stats does not change. If you are already qualified for the QRB, then work turned in after the reinstall will get the bonus. No need to requalify.

What I said was FAH data
directory. In practice that means - once you've Finished your current Work Units - when you uninstall FAH, put a checkmark to "Data" in the uninstaller dialogue:
Checking "Data" will remove everything about FAH from
your computer, so you will have to re-enter your username, team, passkey etc again when you install v7.3.6. But just like Joe_H said, it won't affect your FAH standings at all, your Quick Return Bonus eligibility and current points are stored in FAH stats servers. As long as you don't mistype your existing credentials when you do a fresh install, you'll keep accumulating points just as usual.
As for the data you supplied... if the (apparently cosmetic) problem isn't fixed in v7.3.6 already, I'm sure that developers will take an active interest in the matter. Client v7 is getting improved all the time. Pande Group doesn't give any ETAs for fixes/enhancements though, only "soon" or "not soon".
[geek_lingo]But PG "soon" is nothing like Duke Nukem Forever "soon". Think in terms of Steam "soon".[/geek_lingo]

kwk1, any chance you have the log file open in another dos box / terminal session or notepad screen? That will prevent the client from doing the clean up.

Okay, I guess I just need to wait till I finish the current work unit. Then uninstall the current program, and install the newer program.
Thanks for the help, I'll update this thread when I've installed and fired up V7.3.6.
Pinhead, I don't think I have the file open in another screen.

Okay, finished current WU and uninstalled FAH. Then, installed the latest version.
It took a while, but seems to be working now.
I guess the only question I have now is how to get it to run minimized in the task bar like the older version did.
This new one opens up in a browser window. BTW, I did the express install, not the advanced one.
Thanks

I don't use the web client but you should be able to close it and keep folding. Returning to that website either by browser shortcut, systray icon, or all_programs should reconnect to the active FAH program.
There are some reports of icon problems

you can run Advanced Control and it will appear in the taskbar and minimizing it works fine...
