I just installed the client and can't get any work units. Just since midnight the following things have been logged:

Code: Select all

08:18:17:WU01:FS00:Connecting to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80
08:18:38:WARNING:WU01:FS00:Failed to get ID from 'assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80': 10002: Received short response, expected 8 bytes, got 0

13:39:41:WARNING:Exception: 46:127.0.0.1: Send error: 10053: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
The last few lines popped up when I opened up the Web Control page. I saw on another old thread to try connecting to assign3.stanford.edu:8080/ (I got OK from this one) and 171.67.108.59:8080/ (from this I got "Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.")

I am using the latest version of the client. Here's the section from the log describing my computer:

Code: Select all

The computer itself is a ASUS G73Sw Series notebook that is hardwired to the network. I also checked the Windows firewall and FAHClient is enabled for connecting to any port on any address.

The "Received short response, expected 8 bytes, got 0" error messages indicate your connection is being blocked. Since it occurs on both port 80 and 8080, is this laptop connected to a network that uses a firewall or proxy server?

As for the troubleshooting of the connection you have tried so far, assign3.stanford.edu is an assignment server for SMP projects and 171.67.108.59 is the address of a server that is not currently active. What results do you get when trying to connect to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80 and assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080 in a browser?

Also, could you post the configuration information from your log that follows the System information that you posted already and the log entries that follow that. Is you laptop also configured with a CPU slot? If so include some of the log showing what happened when it connected to the servers to get an assignment.

I get OK from both the addresses you gave. Is this the information you mean? After this, the error messages start repeating,

That your browser was able to connect to the two addresses means that you are not blocked on those two ports. The folding client uses the same type of connection as used by HTTP, there may be a security function on your PC that is blocking that since it is not coming from a browser. What software of this sort is running on your PC or the network you are attached to? Someone may recognize a known issue and be able to post on what settings need to adjusted to let the client download work.

I am running the standard windows 7 firewall and the client is allowed to connect to any address and any port. The only other thing is Avast antivirus, which doesn't appear to effect connectivity.

There appears to also be a network issue on the Pande Group end at the moment. It looks like it started after the time in your log, but any changes made right now might not result in a successful download.

As for your connection, is this at home through an ISP, or at work or school?
