Trial run of mobile optimised theme - comments

We've just activated a mobile optimised theme for the forum on a trial basis to gauge people's reactions/thoughts.
If you are browsing on the desktop you will notice no difference, or if you have set your mobile browser to appear as a desktop browser.
If you are using a mobile browser (on any of the major mobile platforms), the forum will automatically switch to the new mobile theme, with a link at the bottom of the page allowing you to switch back to your regular theme if you want.
This trial is taking place as part of an ongoing effort by the forum administration to improve the experience for small(er) screen devices.

Wow! Thought I was in the wrong forum.
It's a very good look, and seems to function well so far. As a first impression, I like it. Will have to figure where they hid everything, but navigation and viewability are much improved.
Anyway to get this theme (but not sreen size) on a PC?

I like it too. Lots of things not directly required for reading or posting on the forum are hidden away under popup menus. At first I thought there was no "new posts" link, but its actually under the search popup etc.

Impressive! I was a bit surprised at first though, but I like it!
Edit: where are the emoticons?

Emoticons appear for me in posts? You do have to type them in manually when posting though.

But you do not appear to be able to type in emocs though I tried -:P and -:D neither worked from my phone

Uncle_fungus, I'd like to thank you and the other forum admins for their time and effort in putting this together.

If you can change your browser's user-agent settings, then I would think so.
I haven't tried this myself, but I found instructions for Chrome:

Is it just me, or do the Code boxes not shrink to a small but scrollable window in the mobile version?
Overall it looks good and seems very snappy.

I'm seeing the same.

Try putting the colon before the dash.

Other than the scaling of the code boxes it is a really impressive, clean and readable style. I like it.

Interesting. (from my Kindle Fire/Android device).
A couple of comments.
- the data entry box is tiny - spans maybe half of the Kindle Fire screen when in portrait mode and a quarter of the landscape screen. But, it seems fully functional! BTW, I see that this tiny data entry box in the mobile mode is scrollable (see next section below) when using Firefox.
- re: scrolling text boxes. I've been through three browsers now for the Fire - the Silk based browser that Amazon packaged with the unit, the somewhat better Maxthon browser, and now the Firefox browser. The first two didn't handle the scrollable "code" boxes - so far as I could figure out, But Firefox does just fine.
Having said that, I see that this new mobile mode stretches the code box to be just regular text. That works OK.
I'll leave it in the mobile mode for a while and see how I like it.
From my Kindle Fire.

Good to test many different browsers. To supplement my posts above, I'd like to point out that the Dolphin HD browser, supposedly Android's most popular web browser, doesn't make Code boxes scrollable.

One thing I notice is that when there is a "Jump to:" dropdown box, the box will extend past the right edge of the screen even though everything else on the page stops at the right edge of the screen. If I don't scroll down carefully, it will scroll to the right and show white space. Zooming out will fix that problem though
Another thing is that if you click on the little search box for example, and you scroll away, the box will stay depressed. Also I think that once you click on the search box and it brings down the suggestions, that clicking the search box again should get rid of the window that it originally popped up
Note: This is from my Samsung Galaxy S built in browser
PS. I like this very much
