First time Foldin'

Hello everyone, this is the first time I've used this program and I'm having some trouble starting it. I went through the instillation process and now looking at the client control, but I'm not sure what to do from here. It does say "Client: local Online Inactive", so I know its not running anything. However, the folding button doesn't seem to do anything. Have I forgotten a step?
Thank you for your response ahead of time.

Try going into preferences and clicking the "Autostart" checkbox, click "Save", and wait a second for it to change to "Connecting", "Updating", or "Online". The latter would mean it is successfully folding

this sometimes works for me if it doesn't start right away
PS. Don't be surprised if that doesn't work

Welcome to foldingforum.org, toastedArbiter.
It really helps to see the information in the log. I'm not certain if it will show in the "Log" tab of FAHControl or not. If so, remove the Follow checkmark and press Refresh and then scroll back to the beginning and copy/paste several screen-loads from there. If it's not shown, click on Start+All_Programs+FAHClient+Data_Directory and open log.txt and copy/paste the first few hundred lines.
Does Task Manager report that both FAHControl and FAHClient are running, perhaps with or without other programs starting with FAH....?

Ok, found the log. The last line is-
Code: Select all
03:05:00:ERROR:WU01:FS01:Exception: Failed to connect to www.stanford.edu:80: The requested address is not valid in its context.
I think thats my problem. Here is the rest of the log in case it matters-

Ok, how would I go about fixing this little issue?

Looks like your anti-virus, fire-wall, security measures are blocking your out bound connection. Not sure what flavour or version you are running.
But I am guessing that you clicked 'NO' on a bunch of popups that you might should have said 'Yes' to since you installed a new program.

How would I go about giving you the right information so we could work through this?
Also, it said it connected to download something called 'core' from the site in two locations. Wouldn't that mean it has already made contact?
Edit: Also, the only pop-up that came up I said yes to.
Edit: I think the Version is in the block of code.

Ok, update. I told it to run in administrator, and restarted the program. Waited a bit, and now it says "Client: local Online Running"
Apparently its working on something, but the viewer only has a demo protein showing. Is there another step for that?

The viewer requires the core to write a certain file in order to render the protein. I don't believe any of the cores currently in use do so, so all the viewer can show is the demo protein. As long as the progress bar in the Work Queue window goes up every so often, you should be good.

Last I heard (some time ago), only FahCore_78, the UNI one was able to display the actual protein while others displayed the demo. A ticket was opened to resolve this but am unsure of this current status.

Yes it's here
https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... ticket/409
I wonder what it means by "(accepted enhancement)"?

That's the ticket that I was referring to. "accepted enhancement" means that the the ticket is accepted, i.e. it isn't a duplicate or incorrect. Moreover, its an enhancement rather than a bug (which is classified as a defect), i.e. the functionality of the client is increased instead of trying to repair a broken functionality.

alrighty, So I've been messing around with it a little bit, and let it sit last night. Its workin' hard on project 7000, but the core update hasn't moved, and is currently 'unknown'.
How would I got about uploading a screen cap to this forum? Can I directly upload it or do I need to host it on an alternitive site and link it?

AFAIK direct uploads here are not supported so you would have to link to it
