Problems with HD6670 and WinXP and the FAH V7 Client

I am having issues with a HD6670
while SMP works as expected the last GPU related log message is "completed 3 out of ...." and GPU load is 0%
installed 7.1.52 and catalyst 11.10 can't use latest catalyst driver because is not supporting OpenCL on winXP
May it happen to have no cpu available to feed the GPU? or the client manage the issue?

A situation update, now there is some trace of activity for both CPU and GPU but with CPU ETA 25 days and GPU ETA 48 days and estimated ppd 61
Before having the GPU working ppd with CPU alone was between 600 and 1000 depending on WU.
Any hint? other then putting the gpu offline?

Suspending the SMP slot leaves the dual core CPU load at 100%, pausing the GPU too the CPU usage goes near to zero.
Leaving paused the GPU slot makes the ppd estimate to rise to a normal value between 600 and 1000.
Installed 11.10 to have OpenCL support and 12.3 to have latest drivers so current catalyst version details are the following
Driver Packaging Version 8.951-120308a-135748C-ATI
Catalystâ„¢ Version 12.3

Using the Windows Task Manager, click the Processes tab. Then click on the CPU column header once or twice until the non-zero values rise to the top. What are the names of the processes that are consuming that 100%?
It should be noted that for Windows XP, AMD has dropped support for OpenCL in their drivers and the HD 5xxx Series and above REQUIRE OpenCL. That's another way of saying you need Vista or Win7 to run that GPU.

first three are
fahcore_16 88%
fahcontrol 7%
idle 4%
if I leave both slots active and I set affinity for fahcore_16 then the other core is able to run but fahcore_16 is still not progressing
All current topics about AMD/ATI drivers are about recent GPU on XP systems, if is forbidden forbid it
XP has general support for another two years and a new GPU was supposed to be a good easy way to give new life to an oldish pc

recovered the use of gpu for folding by removing all the newest driver and installing a 11.12 version gathered from a random site (11-12_xp32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe)

That depends on your definition of support. My understanding is that Windows XP has been moved from Mainstream Support to the Extended Support phase. During the Extended Support Phase, Microsoft will continue to provide security updates every month for Windows XP; however, free technical support, warranty claims, and design changes are no longer being offered. If there's an OS-related bug in OpenCL, it's considered a design change and they won't fix it unless it's actually a security risk, too.

Most products support current version, and one back. Soon that will be win 8 and win 7. Anything more than that is typically "best effort.". Caveat Folder.

Is probably wise with these conditions to block a known unpredictable condition, FAHclient with AMD GPU on XP and driver newer then 11.12 should not try to run FAHCore_16

That's not an unreasonable idea, but FAHClient cannot be tweaked for every change in drivers/OS/Hardware. At some point the Donor needs to take some responsibility to make sure it's installed correctly. Given the number of both bug tickets that need to be fixed and enhancement requests that are good ideas but may never be fixed due to limitations in resources, I'm not going to write this one up.

As others have already mentioned, AMD has dropped OpenCL support for all platforms below Windows-Vista SP2.

Since I still have some working Windows-XP systems, I just purchased two nVidea cards (which still support CUDA)

(eBay is full of them)

Some donors are successfully running HD5xxx/HD6xxx devices on WinXP by using older driver versions. It's not "supported" but it might work for you. There's a narrow range of driver versions that do work with a narrow range of GPUs - - and there's no guarantee you'll be able to find a combination that works for your hardware. The right way to do it is to update either your OS or your GPU.
