Will the below-described hardware run V7 ?

I have recently been given a Compaq Presario laptop model CQ50-115NR running 32 bit Vista Home Premium
Its processor is an AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00 Ghz and it has 3 GB ram
The GPU is a NVIDIA GEForce 8200M G w/ 256 MB ram.
Should I run 7.1.52 , or am I better off staying w/ 6.23 ?
If I can run 7.1.52, should I just stay w/ SMP ? , or can I run SMP + GPU ?
Thanks in advance for feedback/advice !

Feel free to run 7.1.52. I’ve got an older (circa 2003) desktop still running XP folding on 7.1.52, in addition to a newer (circa 2010) quadcore i5 laptop running Windows 7. Version 7.1.52 automatically configures your system based on what’s best, so the uniprocessor mode runs on my desktop (producing ~100 ppd running smaller projects with longer deadlines), and the SMP mode runs on my laptop (producing ~3000 ppd running larger projects with shorter deadlines).

Not sure that the mobile gpu has the power to do any really useful work, if you want to run SMP then i would go with v7.1.52 running SMP only. Keep an eye on your laptop temps though as they do tend to get warm.

Thank you! -- I'll report back w/ results as soon as I've run 7.1.52 long enough to get an idea of what's going on.

If it runs SMP on V6, it will run SMP on V7 and vice versa.
Both clients will use the same FahCore to process the same WU.

Bruce,
The V6 I've always used has been the console client and all I've ever done with that is enter my name, team number, and passkey during setup.
Then I've made a shortcut to the executable on my desktop and put in Start> All Programs> Startup so that it will start when Windows starts.
If it runs SMP on V6,
..... is there a way to configure the 6.23 console client to run Uniprocessor or SMP ?
I currently am running 6.23 on the machine and as soon as it finishes the current job I'll delete the 6.23 and try 7.1.52 SMP --will report back w/ developments as soon as I can see how that works.

When the V6 client was developed, it was based on the uniprocessor client and it still contains it. Download a V6 SMP client if you don't already have one. In the shortcut, add any one of the following command-line parameters to the Target:
[existing character-string that's in Target]
(With no added parameters, it runs the uniprocessor client)
[existing character-string that's in Target] -smp
(runs the SMP client using all of your cores)
[existing character-string that's in Target] -smp N
(runs the SMP client using less than all of your cores)
(where N is greater than 1 and less than the number of CPU-cores that you have.
It's easier to make those same choices in V7.
