Suppose I need a little guidance, low PPD.

Hey guys. I decided I really wanted to get into folding so I upgraded to a 2600k. I have read the tutorials and a few guides and I thought I had a decent grasp on things but apparently Im doing it wrong.
I have FAH GPU Tracker as well as the beta client of FAHControl. I started using FAHControl because its the only thing right now that will support my 7970 for folding(as far as I know). I have been running, testing, and adjusting for a few days now and my 7970 is netting me around 7k ppd when folding by itself and along with the SMP running. However I am only getting 6300ppd from my 2600k whether the 7970 is running or not.
I tried FAH GPU Tracker to see if maybe it was just the program but I am having the same results. Inside FAH GPU Tracker I have "use multi-core smp client" and "use all cpu cores" enabled. I am at 4ghz right now (waiting for cooler to come in).
Im not sure what else to try, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem is likely related to how you've configured smp. I don't have a 7970, so my question is this: You say your 7970 is netting me around 7k ppd when folding by itself. When that's happening, how much CPU is being used to drive it?
Based on my experience with lesser AMD GPUs, about one CPU will be consumed. It that's still true, then smp:8 won't run along side it effectively, an smp:7 is one of those dangerous prime numbers that leads to an increased failure rate. I'd expect that you'd get a higher PPD with smp:6 plus the 7970 than you'll get with the default smp:8 plus the 7970. It may seem counterintuitive to leave some CPU resources unused, but try it anyway. Remember, this is HypeThreading so they're not really idle.
I presume you have a qualified passkey.

I uninstalled and completely reconfigured everything using the high performance SMP client and FAHmon to monitor. I am now getting 16k PPD. I have completed 27 WU's but they were done without a passkye. I recently got a passkey and am folding on it now. How much of a difference in points once I pass 10 wu's on that passkey is there?

The Quick Return Bonus (which requires a passkey) will vary depending on how quickly you return the results. For most people, the bonus is quite large compared to the baseline points that you have been getting.

FAHMon does not work with QRB credit, you need HFM.net for that.

Oh I didnt know that. I will swap over to HFM.net tonight and see how that goes.

Did I miss something?
Fahmon changelog...
v2.3.99.2 (17/10/10)
General
•Added missing protomol core support.
•Added missing openmmgpu core support.
•Added bonus ppd (kfactor) support.
•Added missing smp2 core support.
I don't use it personally, so maybe support for the latest cores is missing. But bonus PPD was working at one point...

2.3.99.4 can't seem to calculate GPU2 PPD or ETA's and it doesn't know about the A5 core (unknown). But it makes a reasonable effort at guessing the QRB points.
Difference is probably upload time and ACK's.

Ahh sorry no I missed that I guess. Uhm yesterday told a team mate the same thing, must correct that as well.
