My cluster

Okay, so I have switched from folding on my ps3 to my current pc and a backup pc I have...

Both Rigs are running v7

Main Rig
i5-650
16g ram
gtx550 ti
v7 smp only as gpu folding produces capacitor whine that is unbearable and drives my dogs crazy

Backup Rig
mPGA 478 p4
1gig ram
onboard video
v7 smp

Both Pc's run 24\7 and backup is set to 100% usage crunching numbers, main rig is 80%

Givin the fact that the backup rig is going to be replaced with a c2q Q6600 rig in a month, should I worry about killing the p4? It does tend to get a little hot in the corner where I have my desk and there is very little air flow to the p4

Is there a better way to configure my cluster? Or am I good?

Welcome to foldingforum.org, hardheadedmurphy

You can fold with as many computers as you choose, including a PS3, a GTX550ti, an i5, and a P4, or you can shut down as many as you choose.

A P4 is problematic running SMP since it has HyperThreading rather than two independent cores. It's the least likely to make the deadlines.

Capacitor whine is generally related to the level of power being consumed. Slight alterations in the clock speed might (or might not) help. When everything on that machine is running at full tilt, how close are you to to the limits of your power supply? The V7 client has %CPU settings that can be adjusted but they're not really supported by the current versions of the FahCores for SMP or GPU.

Killing a P4 will be directly related to how effectively your heatsink and fans can keep the temperature under control. If nothing else, clean the dust out of the heatsink.
