One core of one of my CPUs (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz) got this WU on 9/9. According to unitinfo.txt, its final deadline is 10/3. But its progress is very slow -- about 18 hours per 1% step. At this rate, it'll be done by mid November or so.

Is this just a really slow WU with this CPU or is there a problem with this WU? I've seen 4-hour per 1% step WUs before, but nothing like this.

Thanks,
-Dan

I assume there's little else running on that system/core? I have very little experience about A4 core, but I'd like to suggest you restart the client with -verbosity 9 and -forceasm flags to get a detailed log. A4 core is highly likely to have the SSE optimization hardcoded into it, but I for one still add the -forceasm flag to my configurations out of habit. If a WU happens to run on traditional FPU instead of SSE optimization for some reason, it will run a lot slower.

Project 7600 is one of the larger core A4 units, and probably should not have been assigned to a machine of your class. What flags do you have set? The A4 core can run both single-threaded as it is doing so on your system, or in SMP which would be with two cores. You may be able to switch to processing this using SMP and both cores, but the unit may fail. You would have to shutdown the second run of Folding while doing this.

Napoleon's question about what else is running on that machine is a good one. What percent CPU does TaskManager say is being used by FahCore_a4? Does the machine fold 24x7?

The deadlines for p7600 are 13.92 days and 23.20 days. That means you'll have to average better than 3h20m to earn any bonus and better than 5h34m to get credit.

I have never got one of these on my classic rig so I really do not have anything to compare it with. But I have run many of them on my -smp rigs and they are one of the fastest WU's out there when it comes to multithread machines. I get frame times of 00:01:20 compared to most other multithreaded WU's which generally have 2+ min frame times. so there is most likley something running in the background. Like maybe an AV doing a scan.

Do you use the latest version of the client - FAH6.34-win32-SMP.exe?

I have had at least one P7600 on an i7@2.66 using a single core cpu client:

Avg. Time / Frame : 00:42:28 - 772 PPD

A tpf of 18 hours does seem a bit high. :e?:
