Best strategy for tracking points under v7 at this time

Hi,

I've spent the better part of two days trying to find an online points calculator for GPU projects. I'm running the v7 client at the moment, and it is my understanding that there is no third-party monitoring software for the purpose of analyzing PPD under v7 at this time. I can make assumptions based on the PPD reported by the v7 client, but I'm sure that this doesn't include any bonus points; I further assume that there actually ARE bonus points given for fahcore11, 15, and 16 projects because the PPD being reported by other donors are much higher than I am seeing reported in my v7 console. Any suggestions would be welcome.

As little as I like it, at this time the best way to track points in version 7 is to remove it and install the v6 clients and track using hfm.net or FAHMON

Interesting, that would explain a lot. I agree with the direction that the changes in the point system are taking the project. The PPDs on the i7's were completely out of line. With my dual processor based pc turning out 300ppd why even try to compete with the guy down the hall getting 20k a day on his Intel machine? My machine may be doing valid science, but that it is very discouraging. But I digress from the topic. I hope they offer the bonus to the GPU returns ASAP.

But I still must having something else wrong with my GPU setups because the PPD being returned on my GPU's simply isn't what I'm reading elsewhere. Hence the need to validate my actual PPDs against an online calculater if for no other reason than to know my power and equipment is being used at best efficiency.

Is your GPU slot set to run at low priority? If it isn't, it may be fighting with any CPU clients you have for the CPU time it needs, slowing it down. Setting it to low will ensure the GPU is never starved for work to do.

What GPU are you running, and what PPD is v7 showing? If it has the base point information, it's usually correct because of the lack of a bonus. However, for me there were some projects that it calculated incorrectly for extended periods of time (I believe this is a known bug and will be fixed by the next release). If you want to be certain, go look at the log and get the frame times from the last few steps, then extrapolate that to the full WU (the point values can be found here).

I think the reason there's no GPU calculator is because the calculation is so simple.

Like Mr. Erikson wrote, if there are no bonus points for core 11,15,16 returns then no calculator is needed. However, my numbers aren't quite as good as I was expecting. I haven't been running the CPU cores on any of the GPU folders in question. Seems the CPU returns are so terribly insiginificant compared to the GPU returns that I'm not taking the chance the GPU is starved for cycles. Furthermore, the GPU folding machines are just folding most of the time lately. I think I'm at the point that I'm gonna discontinue folding on the ATI machines cause the cost/benefit just isn't there yet. Maybe when fahcore_16 can run for more than 5hrs w/o crashing on my machine I'll try ATI folding again.
