For some unknown reason , the reported Active clients for me has jumped from 13 { which I've had for months } to 20
I have not reboot/ reconfigured or installed anything. But in the last few hours 7 clients have been picked up!

What gives??

Since V7 is a complete rewrite, it counts clients differently - note that the concept of 'machine id' doesn't exist in V7. So if you convert a client on one PC that was machine id 1 in V6, it will become slot 1 on that computer in V7. So the stats page counts that as TWO clients in the last 7 or 50 days. It will go back to 1 after 7 or after 50 days, So this increase in 'clients' with v7 is a temporary one.

I'm not sure if I convert TWO V6 clients on the same machine with different machine ids to a single V7 client with two slots whether the stats page will count this V7 installation as one 'client' or two 'clients' - I suspect that this is one of the things that hasn't completely been resolved yet. OTOH, I have V7 clients that are less that seven days old, so I can't say how it counts them from my own experience.

FWIW

I can confirm that my active clients count in the last 7 days has also increased from 13 to 18 and I have not made any changes including not upgrading to V7 yet.

The method of counting clients is being adjusted to take passkeys into account. There have been some problems with the previous method. Previously, in many instances, clients with a passkey were not counted or the same client may be counted twice. For instance, if you run MachineID=1 with a passkey and also run MachineID=1 without a passkey within 50 days, that counts as two clients.

The Pande Group has not required passkeys but they keep giving us more and more reasons to use them. Once every client has a passkey, I think everything will settle out some 50 days later.
