Low PPD with i7 720QM & ATI HD5870

I've attached a screenshot of my specs and the 2 projects... The PPD seems low compared to what I've been reading from other users. I've tried using only 7 cores for SMP and dedicating one core for GPU but doesn't make a difference.

The PPD from GPU is correct for chip with 800 SP @ 700 MHz (it's funny to see that the characteristics of this 5800 Mobility are more like a 4800 "Desktop" than a 5800 "Desktop" ... edit : judging by the number of transistors in the 5800 Mobility chip, it's an underclocked version of the 5770 "Desktop" chip which runs at 850 MHz ...).
The PPD for the CPU is too low, but I'm not surprised since the ATI GPU cores are know to use a significant amount of CPU power that SMP client definitely don't like. First thing to do is to set up Environment Variables for your GPU :

I have a similar setup with an I7 740QM and an ATI 5750. I have my SMP client running with -smp7 and get anywhere from 3000 - 4000 PPD, depending on the WU, and get about 1100 PPD with the GPU client. I got about 1000 less PPD when I let the SMP client run with all 8 cores. Changint the Environment Variables didn't seem to help with my set up.

I am guessing you are on an ASUS G73jh quit folding on the GPU and you ppd will go up quite a bit. I am folding on a G73jh with a 740QM @ 1.86Ghz and getting 5700 PPD on a 6061 WU. Also you can tighten the memory timings up on your lap top and gain some PPD.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I'm folding on a G73JH, I'll try all your suggestions and see what happens.
My Environmental Variables were already set with these settings:
FLUSH_INTERVAL = 128
BROOK_YIELD = 2
CAL_PRE_FLUSH = 1
CAL_NO_FLUSH = 1

Isn't it slow because its running at 1700mhz... Seems power savings is on.... I thought it was faster

Power savings is not on, I've shutdown the GPU core and now only running SMP client with -smp 7 as per Jeannies suggestion.. and only got around 4000.. I started the GPU core back up and getting 2104 for GPU and 3972 for SMP. Going to try memory timings next.

Also there is a MAX Turbo speed of 2.8GHz but it only seems to be hanging around 1.73GHz anyway to force 2.8?
(Edit) Looks like SetFSB would be the way I would overclock my G73JH but the free version doesn't support my model.
(Edit) Grandpa_01 what are you using for tightening up your memory timings?

CPU Tweaker you can find it at this link
http://www.tweakers.fr/cputweaker.html also run -smp if you are only going to fold with the CPU. I have found that on mine it is better to only run the CPU. Less Heat
No there is no way to force it yet.

What were you able to get stable as far as timings for your RAM? and is yours kingston that came with your laptop?
