Hey, Honey what's this?

So, I'm new to F@H, but I put the SMP on my desptop, and left it running overnight. This morning when I woke up, my wife said, "Hey, honey, what is this thing doing?" refering to the SMP. I said, "Curing cancer." She gave me a look, and said, "Why don't you ever tell me anything? You always give me these stupid non-answers!"
It took me 25 minutes of verbal explanation as well as a trip to wikipedia to convince her that the originial statement was actually accurate, and not a generic non-answer.
Then I had to spend 15 minutes convincing her that it wasn't a massive-spend-13-hours-downloading-a-really-HUGE-mega-virus scam.

Tell your wife we thank her for her support.
In addition to wikipedia, she should explore the
stanford homepage and some of the related pages. Don't let her stop reading until she has at least looked at the
layman's guide to the science and the
list of scientific papers. Then suggest that she share the idea with her co-workers or her "sewing circle" or "garden club" or anywhere else she has friends that might have home computers.

lol this gave me a good laugh.
If you ask me, you should have said "it's part of my work honey, don't worry" and saved yourself that hour of talking.

Well, although my wife tolerates my FAH activities, she doesn't pretend to understand the details if I spend 15 minutes explaining something to her (though I usually stop sooner than that). Having her understanding the "big picture" though is worthwhile. It is nice to hear her telling her fiends that they, too, can help cure Cancer / Alzheimer's.

Lol I collaborated with Hans with translating that science page in Dutch, yet I still fail misserably at times to explain it to my neighbours for instance
Most of the time I get the feeling they think I'm trying to sound important while not knowing a thing about the real science behind the project.. doesn't matter that I can recite that page from memory or even go into many of the questions which could follow. Offcourse, when the details come into play, or one wants to know more then the 'laymans' explanation, I have to send them here. And I seen zero people actually take the time to do so ( or atleast, none of them I've ever seen to post a question here on the forums ).
Your post reminded me of this, sorry to take your thread and put my own spin on things here, it was just a moment of recognition ( and, sadly also a moment of feeling inadequate ).
I try and tell myself it's not my fault people don't believe me

I fold so I don't have to wear a pink bow in my hair everywhere I go.
