This server has been down since Monday July 12, 2010 - 21:05:10. The Collection Server has no record of it, so until it's repaired any completed WUs will stay in the queue. Can you let someone know, please? Thanks.

The Pande Group is working on 129.74.85.15. The CS is supposed to be working, but I'm not sure that they took the "no record" issue into account.
The deadlines for those projects are probably long enough that everything will be operational again before it becomes a critical issue.

When you get the message "Server does not have record of this unit. Will try again later." then the problem is at Stanford and not specificly at your end so there is nothing you can do till Stanford fixes its problem.
This happens because there are two servers involved in giving out a WU. The collections server and the actual working server. Here the collection server gave you a WU but then went down before actually transferring that information to the working server. So when you try to return the WU, the working server does not have any information about that WU so it refuses it. All you can do is wait for Stanford to bring back up the collection server so it can then transfer its data to the working server and then it will accept the WU.

But the other one that the server has no record of is probably because the server receiving has not updated to this unit yet and the 'correct' server is busy or down. It should come right soon.

Just to make it clear for all - the
Collection server acts as backup for several
Work servers, and
only the
Work servers dispense WUs. In order for the
CS to retain the WUs you send in -- if your specific
WS is down that dispensed info has to have been forwarded on to the
CS over the same Lan we use to acquire the WU to begin with.
Just to note,
129.74.85.15 came back up at
14:25:10 PDT, so it should clear up any backlog later today.

brityank has that right.
One noted wrinkle, IIRC, the 2 WS at Notre Dame are also the CS to each other's WS, and vice versa.
But that dual role does NOT change the WU interaction that brityand described. A CS will not send out a WU, only collect.

IF I understaned correctly, and I think I do, is just keep a pluging away and let the chips fall where they may.
My computer works 24/7 on WUs except when is crashes or we have a power failer.
