Something is wrong since about four or five days ago: I cannot upload a finished working unit and cannot get a new packet either.
This is part of my log:
[01:39:37] + Attempting to get work packet
[01:39:37] - Connecting to assignment server
[01:39:42] - Successful: assigned to (0.0.0.0).
[01:39:42] + News From Folding@Home: Welcome to Folding@Home
[01:39:42] Work Unit has an invalid address.
[01:39:42] - Error: Attempt #2 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
Using:
Folding@Home Windows Client
Version 5.03 Build November 9, 2004
I've downloaded version 6.23, but it doesn't install over 5.03, it installs in another directory (it doesn't ask me where to install it). Both versions can work at the same time. I don't know if that is correct, so I uninstalled 6.23 hoping 5.03 would recover it's normal functioning sometime. If I uninstall 5.03, do I lose my personal or team score? What is the correct way to upgrade from 5.03 to 6.23?
Please help me. I hate to see my F@H taskbar icon knowing it isn't doing anything.

If your OS allows you to run v6 clients, it's is highly recommended to upgrade ...
Write down your Username and Team number, uninstall your v5 client and remove all the remaining files, then install v6 and configure it with the same Username and Teamnumber as before.
If you keep the same Username and Teamnumber, your score will continue to add up ...

I would like to add that when you do this upgrade, you also get a passkey. Instructions
here Also if you could give us your hardware configuration, we would advice you which client(s) to use

I don't believe this is a client version problem, as I've been having the identical thing, zero work for a few days now. I've tried under both 5.xx and 6.xx. It keeps assigning me (or trying to) 0.0.0.0 then says no work was available. Two clients have been trying for days now. Is Stanford out of single version work?

Amazing, mere minutes after finally posting about this, I get work, a 4606.
Hope you get one too, macvill.

I would suggest to go for a single instance of Uniprocessor client if you tend to use your system a lot. If you do basic work like e-mail, word docs, etc then you have two options:
1) You could run two instances of Uniprocessor Client. This is when your system isn't on 24/7
A) First install the 6.23 version.
B) After installation, don't start the Client, go to program files and copy the F@H folder to C:\
C) Inside the F@H folder will be another folder, rename it to F@H CPU 1
D) Copy the F@H CPU 1 and paste it in the same location and rename it to F@H CPU 2
E) Go inside each folder and right click the .exe to make the shortcut to the desktop and make sure that they are correctly named CPU 1 and CPU 2
F) Start the CPU 2 Client and fill in the Username, Team Number and passkey. Go to Connection Tab and check the box to allow WUs larger than 10MB (I am guessing that you have a good speed DSL). Go to Advanced Tab and select Machine ID 2. Also in the Advanced Perimeter you can add these flags:
-verbosity 9 -advmethods
You can copy the above line and paste it as it is. The firs flag makes the F@H Log detailed so it is helpful while troubleshooting. The second flag allows you to receive WUs that are in the advance beta stage.
G) Restart the CPU 2 Client.
H) Start the CPU 1 Client and copy all the configurations as the CPU 2 Client except the Machine ID as it will be 1 by default.
I) Restart the CPU 1 Client and in task manager, you will notice that your CPU is at 100% usage.
2) If you have enough experience with F@H, then you can use the SMP2 client. Your system should be on 24/7 to meet the short deadlines of the WUs. Also it is advised to have a passkey so that you can take advantage of the bonus point system once you qualify. I have no experience with SMP2 so can't guide you. Your best bet is to look at the Official F@H Guide.

For a further discussion of the original problem with V5, please see the topic where this is already being discussed.(There was a problem last June, but it started again recently.) viewtopic.php?t=10453#p134581
Please post FAHlog for the v6 client so we can see what's going on. Now that you've upgraded, this is a new issue but you can continue that discussion here.
