I hate to see a WU go down the drain. Any ideas?

Re: New Issue With 3907
Yes, it's almost certainly a bad interaction with Vista security. There are several possiblities, though. Which of the recommendations to get FAH to run under VIsta did you choose.Akuma16 wrote:OS: 32 Bit Vista Basic

Is FAH installed in \Program Files?
Is UAC enabled or disabled?
Did you Run As Administrator when you started FAH?

UAC is enabled, I simply haven't gotten around to disableing it.bruce wrote: Yes, it's almost certainly a bad interaction with Vista security. There are several possiblities, though. Which of the recommendations to get FAH to run under VIsta did you choose.

It is installed in \Program Files\Folding@Home, but I gave the Users group full control for that specific folder in the hope that would make Vista security happy. And I ran that instance of the command prompt without Admin privelege. I dislike haveing to run a program with elevated privelege, but I know in the past, not running as Admin has caused problems.
I guess what we have here is a case of nothing but user error!
I will make a backup of the current context, move the folder to my \users folder tree, and run with Admin privelege.
Thanks for the help.
Re: New Issue With 3907
I, too, dislike having to run with elevated privileges. Vista has begun enforcing the standard that only the trusted installer puts things in "\Program Files" so the default installers are being redesigned to put user data in the \User\<your name> location like Linux does. That leaves the problem of where (and how) to install dynamically updated software, including all of the FahCores+_* programs.
(I'm running FAH in Vista without "run as administrator" but I have not yet settled on a "best" configuration for FAH. The Pande Group is working on similar issues and I hope we're not heading in opposite directions.)
