My first post for folding@home i was just wondering at about what time frame am I looking at for folding with my setup for the 500 number. Was just wondering if anyone had a timeframe in mind for how long it generally takes on similar specs as these:

amd phenom 9850 quad core oc'd to 3.0ghz on each core
4 gigs of ddr2 1066 ram
asus radeon 5870.

Ill probably be upgrading to a new mobo processor ram config in the next month or so to an i7 920 and oc it to around 4ghz stable but for now i was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure of a decent time to do a set

What do you mean by the 500 number?

You're probably looking at 1200 ppd or so with frame times around 22 minutes with the windows smp client. With VMware and notfreds or another linux smp client you'll probably see somewhere in the 3500-4000 ppd range.

You can't give any general frame time as they change from one project to another ...

That's why we use PPD (points per day) to measure performances. This value can be computed by hand, or with 3rd party tools (fahmon, hfm, fahspy, ...).

the only relavent information i can find is at the bottom in toolbar for f@h- it says "cpu - F@H: Working 5/500"

what does this mean?

That means that FAH is thinking about this WU in terms of 500 processing segments and you've completed 5 of them. Almost everybody looks at FAHlog.txt where you'll find a message saying "Completed xxxxx out of yyyyyy steps (1%)" which means exactly the same thing. We commonly call that one "frame" although that word it a bit inaccurate.
