HELLO PEOPLE!!! VOTE IN MY POLL PLEASE!!

Hello people, this is cclanr :egeek: asking for some help. My computer is moderately fast. I leave my computer on 7 hours a day just for f@h. Everyday I do, I check  my user stats. I never have any points  . Can someone tell me why this might be happening? :P :?:

They stopped issuing crystal balls back in the 1600s. And I don't have telepathy, so unless you do, you will need to post more information about your computer, your client, your fahlog.txt file, etc. Then you will get better answers.

You wouldn't call up a doctor and ask him/her to fix an ingrown nail without telling him/her if it was a toe, finger, or even if it was on your own toe or finger and not your dog's paw. Same applies here. Let's start with seeing the first 50 lines of your fahlog.txt file.

Fastest way would be to use Search (I'm assuming this is a Windows box) to look for "Fahlog.txt". In any case, it should be in the folder in which you installed the client. If you installed a systray client, I believe it installs itself to C:/Program Files/Folding@home; console client would be whichever folder you ran the installer in.

its not there.. my tray says: CPU - F@H: Working (135/1500)

Does this mean anything? Does my number or WU (i think) have to get to 1500/1500 to start earning points? I've left my computer on for 7 hours for the last 2 days and i've only got 135, can you estimate how much longer it will take??

If you're running Vista or 7 and the systray client, right click the folding@home logo and then find the option for log file and click it :)

You have to let it run for several days to complete a work unit. When this gets up to 100%, then the client will upload the completed work unit, and you will get your points a few hours later.

[00:46:13] Completed 135000 out of 1500000 steps (9%)

How quickly you earn points depends on how fast your computer is. Without knowing your hardware configuration, we're back to guessing again... ;)

my OS (c) drive has 1.74 gb left and my recovery (d) has 5.5 gb left. btw i like ur picture 7im!! How many points do you get after finishing a work unit??

The processor type and speed determine most of the performance, not HD size. The number of points is determined by the size of the work unit. All things covered the FAQs on the project web site. You might look them over.

OK, didn't vote in your poll, but.. Just from looking at your log: the current unit you are working on it worth 225 points, and you seem to be running at over 2% an hour so this one might take you awhile if you only have it on for 7 hours in 2 days, or was that 7 hours a day?
Anyway you can look at you log yourself and calculate the time it will take by the percentages and how long it is on for, different units will go at different speeds and be worth more or less points.
As pointed out, better answers will come from more information, try listing the processor type and speed, the operating system you use, how much RAM, the amount of time on and other things you are running etc. Would have taken less time and effort than inventing a poll.

From your log too :-
[00:10:44] - Working with standard loops on this execution.
[00:10:44] - Previous termination of core was improper

[03:58:13] - Working with standard loops on this execution.
[03:58:13] - Previous termination of core was improper.
[03:58:13] - Going to use standard loops.

This means that your machine or Folding was n't closed down correctly - normaly means a power failure or turning off by just pressing the power button. This is not good! Your machine will fold next time at a medieval speed! Make sure that you get the message "Extra SSE boost OK."
Easiest way is to add the forceasm flag - see the FAH Wiki

Okay, you vare not running a fast computer... my 2.0ghz laptop is runing that unit right now at 19min per % work.

/you are on a netbook aren't you?

This topic seems to be going nowhere fast.

You will get points when your WU is finished. How many depends on the specific project. In this case it is a p4458 (from your logs)and the point value for it is 225 points. You can always look up the point value of your project from http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html.

We can't tell if your performance is reasonable without knowing the specifications of your hardware! However, looking at your log two days have elapsed and you have finished 9%. those numbers will give you 225 points in 22 days.

A lot of that time, your computer was not folding. if you keep your computer running 24x7 then you will get your points much sooner. When folding you are getting 4% done in 2:28 minutes and that finishes your WU in aprox. 2 days 14 hours so you will generate 87.6 points per day. At that level of production my guess is that you are running a 2.8 GHz P4.

As mentioned earlier, you can improve your production significantly by simply shutting down your machine properly.

As to your points sucking: there is no doubt! A modern machine with a reasonable graphics card can easily generate 4000+ points per day and you are getting 90.

Welcome to life folding on older hardware cclanr :) haha I've got the standard CPU console client running on my old's PC and it's lucky to make 1,000 PPW (points per week).. whereas i also run 2 PS3s which make 1,000 PPD (points per day) each! so a whole week of folding points wise on my computer is matched by my PS3 (points wise).. However, they both work on different types of work units and both are still very handy for the Folding@Home project... so i'm trying to say keep folding, don't get discouraged, but just know that newer hardware will certainly boost your points return ;)
