Uninstalled notfreds, but can't reinstall

Now i'm not the sharpest knive in the draw, but normaly do ok.
I had issues, that turned out to be my GTX280 and thats off for RMA. But I uninstalled notfred and the VM player as part of me procces of identifing and confirming the issue I was having. Anyway, I would like to reinstall notfreds and get back to my previous out put with 2 VM and 1 (new to get me by till the 280 returns) 285.
On attempting to install I get the message that the VM Player is installed already and will need to be uninstalled to complete this install.
I am flumoxed.
I have googeled around and tried a few methods to allow me to install, from a ms option that did not see the VM player, to control panel, again not seen. I have also tried to remove all references in regedit (tried this twice) but still getting the same message.
Now on a personal level as I run 24/7 on the GPU, its a bit annoying to say the least that I'm losing itro 5 to 5.5k ppd and the science from my Q9650 .
Could anybody throw a few scraps that might help please
The problem will end when Win7 is realeased as I have a new 128 GB ssd waiting and Win 7 64 bit preordered, but would love to put my contribution to get back to normal. On a plus, when the 280 returns I might be able to use both GPU's and 2 VM's (my hardware is up to this with a Corsair HX 1000 watt psu)
