Well, it finally bit me too - not quite so academic as just looking up and analyzing the server stats.

Strange thing is that after normal termination of the Work Unit at 08:34 UTC, and after normal creation of the /wuresults_03.dat file, the Windowx 7 v6 SMP client got hung up when trying to upload. at the end of the first Code block below - we see

[08:36:24] Connecting to http://130.237.232.141:8080/
[10:07:43] Killing all core threads

The client was "stuck" trying to upload after it had ostensibly connected at 08:36:24. I CTRL-C'ed the client at that point, and restarted. The client immediately cleaned up the old work folder (gasp. 2.2 days of folding), but did leave the [08:36:24] wuresults_03.dat file. The assignment server (second Code block) connected to 171.67.108.22, where it downloaded and started executing a 2685.

It's now 03:41 local in California, so I'll leave it to its own devices and go to bed. The new WU got to its 1% point, but the completed p6900 still waiting to be sent back, with clock ticking on QRB. You can see at the end of the second CODE block it tried the upload again - but now couldn't connect to the server.

BTW, this phenom of being stuck on the Connecting to Server isn't new. Here's an example from Feb 2011. Re: How do I upload my results?
fgiouh89fgh wrote: Sat Feb 05, 2011 8:06 pm
It was also stuck on "Connecting to130.237.232.141:8080/". I do not think it was uploading anything, it was just sitting there at that screen. Even NetWorx showed virtually no activity (under a KB upload).

The server status for this baby says "No Response" and the alternative 130.237.165.141 does not ease the pain. Would anybody push the button?

me too. annoying when we keep being told quick return is essential and then we can't because of no fault of our own.

EDIT: even more annoying, a forced send appears to send the entire parcel of data but then get no message back so it pauses indefinitely! So now this failed unit is affecting the next one as well.

I think they gave out units by mistake and now we have no way to return valid work.

I know that bigadv is a beta project but why do the servers always seem to have problems at weekends then take ages to sort out. I also know Stanford isn't in the same timezone as me but it doesn't change the dissatisfaction of being in a project where speed is encouraged and then the collection servers won't do their bit.

BTW, I'm not alone on this issue. I hope it gets resolved soon as I only have about 18 hrs. shelf life left on a pair of -bigadv. It would be shame to lose 140K points, let alone the science.

The current connection status is "Reject."

With it being 0800 out here on the West Coast I hope somebody will be in to look at it soon.

We're working on this server; it should be accepting returns now.
