Thanks. I've added the logfile_xx.txt files to my rsync setup.

For some reason, my 3 Linux/WINE GPU folders have asterisks by their PPD at all times under 2.3.99.1, but this didn't happen with earlier FahMon versions. All my other folders (Windows CPU, Linux CPU, Linux SMP) have no asterisks.

I've tried doing this on my VM clients from XP setting up the /work folder as a mapped network drive. I continue to get access denied on the current logfile_xx.txt
Despite that FahMon appears to work fine without logfile_xx.txt.
What are we missing by not having that file available?

This quoted text from an old post dated Thu Jan 24, 2008 5:54 am is the only information I could find about the meaning of the asterisk next to the number in the PPD column. Could the meaning of the asterisk be added to the Monitoring Clients (or similar) page so its purpose is easier to find?

Also, I bumped into the resizing the GUI problem again on WinXP. This is where the FAH log is visible and when you attempt to make the overall size of the GUI shorter, the top part of the GUI gets squished because the log window itself can't be resized. If feasible, could this be fixed in an upcoming release?

Thought of something else. :) How about an option in preferences that would make the X (close) button minimize the GUI to the notification area instead of closing the application.

Edit: Only the color cube status, progress, name, ETA and PPD columns remember their size after a restart of FAHMon. When FAHMon is restarted, the other columns are hidden again and have to be resized.

Thanks.

For some reason fahmon is quite unstable. I have sent today 4 dump files to fahmon website. My OS is XP Pro 32 and I mesure local clients and also other workgroup clients via network share. Everything works some 8-12 hours and then stops or crashes.

For some reason I can't seem to get 2.3.99.1 working. It seems to compile just fine, but I can't get it to run at all. Whenever I select it under applications --> System tools it acts like it does nothing. same when I go to the FahMon-1.2.99.1 folder. I even opened up a terminal and manually type ./FahMon with no luck either. I even ran top and it doesn't list it as running.

Does anyone have a new FahMon How to guide for Linux (preferable Ubuntu). I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1 fully updated.

Thanks for any help
-=Mark=-
ps. do I need to uninstall FahMon first? if so, how would I go about doing that?

One thing you could try Mark is to rename the .fahmon folder in your home. See if the program starts after that. It's possible that something has changed from your older version that is no longer compatible.

Just a thought. :wink:

hmm, I see no .fahmon anywhere when I use dir -a. I see tons of other .filenames, just not .fahmon. could it be listed elsewhere?

Thanks

hmmm that's a bit strange. It is a hidden file (denoted by the dot in front of the name) but since you can see other filenames with a period in front you must be viewing hidden files.

Mine is definitely listed in my home folder:

Code: Select all

drwxr-xr-x  2 bollix bollix   4096 2009-03-11 21:48 .fahmon
Try opening nautilus via a terminal (Application > Accessories > Terminal):

Code: Select all

nautilus
Use ctrl-h to show hidden files. If it's there you can right click on it and choose Rename...

It doesn't make sense that it's not there unless you somehow installed it as a different user(i.e. root).

Also, make sure you have all of the needed software listed in the REQUIRES file:

Code: Select all

Software for running FahMon on Linux
REQUIRED
* wxGTK >=2.8.0 (Unicode build)
* libcurl >= 7.15.0

Code: Select all

Software for building FahMon on Linux
REQUIRED
* gcc-c++
* wxGTK >=2.8.0 (unicode build)
* wxGTK-Devel >=2.8.0 (unicode build)
* m4
* libcurl >= 7.15.0

libcurl has been the main trouble to get my copies to compile ... then libwxcurl to get it to run (it will complain about this missing library if you try to start from a terminal).

As described in the manual, and by bollix, above, you need to make sure you have libcurl, and libcurl-dev(el) installed. Additionally, you may also have to run `sudo ldconfig` after running `sudo make install` in order for FahMon to be able to find libwxcurl.

why fahmon detect tinker core have 400 frame? see http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9573, i use Fahmon 2.3.99.1, i cannot understand why that core have different frame(i know from benchmark fahmon), this is bug or not??

If you look at the Project Summary page you will see that projects 5732 to 5747 are all listed twice, once for Tinker and once for GROGPU2. Perhaps Pande is comparing results between the GPU and the uniprocessor client but this must be causing a problem for monitoring software as I'm sure those programs are expecting project numbers to be unique.

As to why 400 steps I have no idea. :?

I found the following FAHlog sequence appeared in FAHMon as if the folding client was still running (Green indicator light), while it was not.

Code: Select all

The data source FahMon uses for it's project data (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html) currently contains conflicting (and incorrect) information for certain projects. For some reason a number of GPU2 projects are being listed twice, once with the correct data, and once with incorrect data. The parsing algorithm FahMon uses can usually catch problems with psummary, but it occasionally gets it wrong, as has happened here. The problem in PPD calculation stems from the fact that TINKER WUs require a different progress calculation to be used, which means that the "intelligent system" for calculating frame count on-the-fly doesn't work.

Good catch, I'll make sure that makes it's way into the state detection logic.

Here's another suggestion for consideration. When a client stalls (in my case for days) and can't download a WU the columns could reflect this behavior. Perhaps starting with the 10th failed attempt to get work. For example, FAHMon columns could show:

1. The colored square column could have a brown cube, instead of yellow.
2. The progress column could read 0%, instead of 100% (this improves sorting with other clients that are still working).
3) The ETA column could read "Unknown", instead of "Finished".

The only problem I see with using "Unknown" instead of "Finished" is that it doesn't improve sorting. Both are words and sorting would probably work better if it wasn't a word. Perhaps hyphens (eg: ----) or left blank.

Or, are these bad ideas?
